

Judith Ellen Smith Mathis, aged 78, of Blanco, TX, passed away peacefully on September 28,2024. Born on July 2, 1946, Judith lived a vibrant and fulfilling life, marked by her deep faith andlove for her family.
Judith graduated from Blanco High School and alongside her husband, Gary Mathis, served asa pastor. The couple first led the congregation at Church in the Mountains in Fort Davis, Texas,for six years before founding and pastoring Church Alive in San Antonio from 1991 until 2015.Those who knew Judith will remember her as a fervent prayer warrior with a fun and vibrantspirit. She dedicated her life to her family, especially cherishing her role as a grandmother andgreat-grandmother. Judith was also a talented watercolor painter, proficient in calligraphy, andenjoyed gardening and caring for her chickens.
Judith is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Gary S. Mathis; her children, Audra Lane(John), Chris Mathis (Holly), and Kendra Hotchkin (Charles); grandchildren, Cassi Rooks(Sean), Bryce Lane (Aften), Tyler Lane (Meghan), Katie Swang (Levi), Emily Mathis, AlexisHotchkin, Ainsley Hotchkin, Rory Hotchkin, and Riley Hotchkin; and great-grandchildren, NatalieRooks, Ethan Rooks, Scarlette Lane, John Lane, Wyatt Lane, Emma Lane, Claire Lane, JosephLane, and Tyler Lane. Judith is also survived by her siblings, Stephen (Kennie), Severne(Wendy), Holly (Dennis), and Nelson. She was preceded in death by her parents, Foster CarrollSmith and Jane Katherine Arztz Smith.
