Judy Kay Reid, age 65, of San Antonio, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, June12, 2014 after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Judy was a dedicated and loving woman who had a gift for teaching special education students in San Antonio for 37 years. She was a committed student herself, earning a Bachelor of Science degree and two Master's degrees in Education. Most of her teaching career was spent helping students with visual disabilities learn the skills needed to excel in everyday life. Not only did she serve as their teacher but more often as a mentor and friend, keeping in touch with them even after they graduated. She was a member of the Lion's Club as well as a generous supporter with her time and money for numerous charities such as ASPCA and Saint Jude's Children's Hospital.
Judy's hobbies included scuba diving, spending hours searching through thrift stores, and traveling all over the world. She was able to visit Europe several times, and most of the fifty states. Her favorite pastime however, was visiting with her family and friends. She was a great listener and an even better story teller, who could often spend hours laughing and talking. Judy was a very loyal friend to many, and had several friendships that spanned over her entire adult life. Judy had a zest for life and was a patient, loving, kind hearted spirit that touched the lives of many. She was loved and admired by her family and friends for her smile, optimism, and her ability to never give up. She will be greatly missed by all those who had the blessing of having crossing her path.
Judy is survived by her sisters, Carolyn Roop and Donna Mark; nephews and nieces, David Drake, Sherri Wahlberg, Scot Whitis, Shashauna Nolan, and Linleigh Mark; and 3 Great Nieces, Ashley Wahlberg Evans, Cheyenne Drake, and Josalyn Nolan.
