Ms. Judy Terry was born and raised in Brookhaven, Mississippi where she graduated from Brookhaven High School in 1965. She attended the Gilfoy School of Nursing and graduated in 1968. She then studied at the University of Georgia in Augusta, Georgia and graduated with the class of 1975. She earned a Master's Degree in Nursing from the University of Alabama, Huntsville, Alabama.
Judy then joined the US Army Nurse Corps in October of 1975. While in the Army she received numerous military awards to include 1 Legion of Merit, 2 Meritorious Service Medals, 2 Army Commendation Medals, 1 Navy Distinguished Service Medal, 1 Army Service Ribbon and the Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation. She was also awarded The Order of Military Medical Metric Award, which is a unique, private organization founded in April 1982 by the Commanding General of U. S. Army Health Services Command. Membership in the Order denotes distinguished service which is recognized by the senior leadership of the AMEDD. Judy spent her final 4 years of active duty at BAMC ISR. She served her country 20 years and retired from the Army Nurse Corps, as a Lieutenant Colonel in October of 1995.
Following her retirement she was a Healthcare Manager at Health Net Federal Services, from November 1995 to November 2004. In December 2004, Judy became the Chief of Utilization Management at Brook Army Medical Center and continued this role until her passing. She received five Special Act/Service Awards and one Achievement Award for Civilian Service.
Judy liked ceramics, jewelry and attending San Antonio’s annual Fiesta celebrations. She enjoyed Buffalo Wild Wings, margaritas and Texas Roadhouse and she adored her two fur-babies, Little Bit and Brandy.
Judy gave selflessly to her country as an active duty soldier and as a civilian employee ensuring that active duty service members, retirees, their dependents and civilians received the highest standard of medical case management and care while at BAMC. She ensured that the medical management team upheld that standard while creating a family environment at work. Judy shared her wisdom, humor, insight and caring with all she encountered. She was part of the BAMC family for 22 years.
Judy was proceeded in death by her parents, C M Terry and Reba Floyd Terry of Brookhaven, MS. Surviving are her sister, Sandra Gerald of Brookhaven, MS; nephew, Clint Gerald of Brookhaven, MS; niece, Terri Gerald Lowery of Sumrall, MS., 2 great nephews and 2 great nieces as well as her canine companions Little Bit and Brandy.
