

A memorial service will be held at Crossroads Baptist Church, 8300 Tezel Road, San Antonio, on Friday, January 13, 2017 at 2:00 pm with Dr. Doug Diehl officiating.
Julia -- fondly known as "Doolie" to family and friends -- was born in Louisville, Mississippi to Marvin C. Porter, Sr. and Julia Mae Porter (née Therrell) on March 2, 1933. She attended high school in San Antonio at Thomas Jefferson High School, graduating in 1951. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, playing Canasta and dominos, watching football and her "stories" on television, and above all, spending time with her loving family.
Julia is preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and Julia Porter; three sisters, Therrell Porter, Frances Porter Goslin, and Juanita Porter Hutton; and one brother, Marvin Porter, Jr. She is survived by her husband, James Terry Bowen; daughter, Lisa Bowen Coley and spouse Lee Coley (San Antonio); daughter, Lori Bowen Jones and spouse Johnny Jones (McDonough, GA); son, Stephen Bowen (Chicago); six grandchildren, Brittany Gee Gates and spouse Edward Gates (San Antonio), Michael Gee (New York), Joshua Mix and spouse Andrea Mix (McDonough, GA), Benjamin Mix (McDonough, GA), Katie Mix (McDonough, GA), Preston Norman (San Antonio); two great-grandchildren, Paxton Mix and Jude Mix (McDonough, GA); and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the Intensive Care Unit nursing staffs of University Hospital and Kindred Hospital for their support in her final days.
