Julia Theresa Goodrich Perovich was born December 29, 1926 in Houston, Texas and entered rest on April 18, 2015. She was the fourth of seven children born to Philip Francis Goodrich and Julia Theresa Crabbe Goodrich. The Goodriches moved to San Antonio from Houston in 1936, establishing their home on Hays Street, and Theresa and her brothers and sisters attended St. Mary's School downtown. Her father worked for Southern Pacific and they were very proud to be a "railroad family." They were a happy family, raised with a love of the outdoors, music, reading, and laughter.
After high school Theresa started a secretarial career that continued for much of her life. She was always impeccably dressed and groomed: her beloved older sister, Martha, made most of her clothes and they loved to compare notes on hairstyles and the latest fashions. She met and fell in love with Milton Perovich, known to all as "Perk," the one and only love of her life. They married and had four children: John Thomas, Milton, Jr., known as "Little Perk"; Mary Anne, and Lawrence Lee.
Perk died suddenly in 1964, leaving Theresa to raise Mary Anne and Lee, which she did with tremendous love and devotion. They both remember a childhood filled with love and support, which continued until she drew her last breath. She worked as a bookkeeper for many years for the Jaffe family and greatly enjoyed her work: she thrived on keeping the books organized and running smoothly and loved taking care of people. She was famous for the family holiday gatherings at her beautiful home and for always making everyone who entered feel welcome. Her children and her many nieces and nephews share fond memories of her always well-stocked cookie jar and refrigerator.
