Karen was a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, and friend. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jennie and Dale Reichley. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Steven Kalter, and her son, Benjamin Kalter (Haley). She is also survived by her three siblings, Martha Rhea (Joe), Karl Reichley, Mark Reichley and their families.
Karen Bridget was born on January 10th, 1955 to Jennie and Dale Reichley, growing up in Westlake, Louisiana. She attended McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana where she received her bachelor’s degree. She went on to earn her Master’s degree in Public Health while in Houston, Texas at the UT Health Science Center. Karen met her husband Steve at Herman Hospital and they got married in Houston in 1985. Upon completion of Steve’s medical training, they moved to San Antonio, Texas where they began their beautiful, full life.
Karen was a devoted mother and wife, confident in the loving promises of our Lord. Her faith and commitment to our Lord was her source of strength as she battled her cancer for over 40 years. After recovering from her illness, she and Steve waited patiently for the birth of their son, Benjamin David. For the three Kalter’s, free time on the weekends included travel to the Hill Country, across America and abroad to fish, play sports and explore. Karen was faithful in her service to others, she volunteered at St. Vincent De Paul giving her time, talent and prayer. She loved and was loved by many. Her last words were “I am tired.”
Thank you, Lord, for Karen’s 70 years of earthly life. We will miss her grace, beautiful smile, and contagious laugh. Dear Karen, may you rest in peace.
