Kathleen E Severyns

Kathleen “Kathy” Elizabeth Severyns, nee Meeker, age 75, journeyed to heaven on July 15th, 2022. Beloved wife of Peter A. Severyns. Loving mother of Richard (Jana), Thomas (Amanda), and Susanna (Edward) Harrison. Adored grandma of Janson, Jackson, Patrick, Nicholas, Richard, Emma, and Katherine. Cherished sister of Mary Ellen (Glen) Wherfel, Richard (Sue) Meeker, and Julie (Gregory) Courchene. Dear sister-in-law of Daniel (Christine) Severyns. Caring aunt of 9 nieces and nephews, Quentin, Patrick, Michael, Ryan, the late Eric, Katherine, Jessica, William, and Laura.

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, Willard and Katherine Meeker and her parents-in-law, Albert and Pearl Severyns.

Kathy earned her B.A from Northeastern Illinois University and her M.A. from University of Texas at San Antonio. Kathy met the love of her life, Pete, while studying at Northeastern Illinois University. She traveled to Guadalajara to earn her Bilingual/Bicultural credits and spoke Spanish fluently. Kathy’s love was teaching and studying history. She was an avid Ancestry.com follower and traced her family’s roots back to the 1500’s. She is also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Humane Society of San Antonio.

Kathy was a teacher in San Antonio, Texas for over 30 years, teaching a majority of her years at Rogers Middle School and retiring from Fox Tech High School.

In her retirement years, Kathy worked at UTSA helping train future teachers.

Kathy was also a friend to any animal she came across, most recently feral cats. She was a cat mom caring for her 9 feral cats on a daily basis. She funded the spaying/neutering of her neighborhood feral cats and fed and cared for them everyday. She had feeding stations outside and she and Pete built a shelter in their yard to protect their feral friends from the elements.

Visitation for Kathy will be held at Sunset Memorial Park & Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 2nd from 6:00-8:00pm with Rosary being said from 7:00-7:30pm.

Funeral mass for Kathy will be said at 10:00am on Wednesday, August 3rd at St. Peter Prince of the Apostles Catholic Church, 111 Barilla Place, San Antonio, Texas, 78209.
