Kenneth “Ken” H. Bennett, Jr., age 55, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, September 18, 2022, in Sunrise Beach, TX. He was born in Binghamton, NY, on March 24, 1967, to his parents Cynthia Miller and Kenneth H. Bennett, Sr.
A proud Eagle Scout and salutatorian of Warren Hills Regional High School, he attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology on an Air Force ROTC scholarship and graduated with a degree in electrical engineering. He served as an officer in the Air Force from 1989 to 1996, when he separated as a Captain. In 1996, he joined the SouthWest Research Institute, where he was the Vice President of the Applied Physics Division at the time of his death. He enthusiastically served as a Governing Committee Member and as part of the Finance Committee of Seton Home from 2015 until his death.
He will be remembered for his love of family. He was never afraid to get down on the floor and play Barbies with his little girls. He shared a love of adventure and enjoyed traveling with his wife. A foodie, he loved experimenting with cooking and trying new cuisines. His favorite place was Lake LBJ, where he loved entertaining and riding his jet ski. He was passionate about golf, and could defeat anyone and everyone in sports trivia. He was a Pittsburg Steelers and Oakland A’s fan — we aren’t sure why. Ken was an all around funny guy whose quick wit and thought provoking jokes never failed to make the whole room laugh.
He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth H. Bennett, Sr. Ken is survived by his beloved wife of 30 years, Major General Lee Ann Bennett; his daughters, Alyssa B. Sellstrom and her husband, Craig, and Lindsey Bennett and her partner, Billy Steele; his mother, Cynthia B. Hunt and her husband, William; his brother, Kevin Bennett and his wife, Christina; his sister, Meredeth Koellisch and her husband, David; and numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and colleagues.
The family will receive friends for a viewing from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Sunday, September 25, 2022, at Porter Loring Mortuary.
