Kenny was born in Bethpage, New York to Maryellen and Michael A. Nugent. He was raised in Amityville, New York and moved to Pocomoke, Maryland at the age of nine years old. Kenny is survived by his loving wife of five years, Angelique Snyder, pregnant with their daughter Emma Nugent; daughter Norah Nugent; parents Michael Nugent and Maryellen Nugent; brothers James Nugent (Cameron) and Sean Nugent (Brooke); nephews Eamon, Patrick, and Grady; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family.
Kenny was a proud graduate of Pocomoke High School, where he was named a Maryland Distinguished Scholar and a Maryland Tennis All-Star and, unsurprisingly, was a three time recipient of the Sportsmanship Award. He continued his academic journey at St. Mary’s College of Maryland in St. Mary’s City, MD. Majoring in Biochemistry, Kenny excelled academically, graduating in the top 5% of his class. His collegiate tennis career was equally exceptional, as he set school records and served as Tennis Team Captain his senior year.
With his strong background in sciences and natural proclivity for interpersonal connection, Kenny decided to pursue a career in medicine and earned his medical degree at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore, MD. During his time in Baltimore, Kenny met his future wife, Angelique, and there, they began their journey together. He completed his medical training, specializing in emergency medicine, at ChristianaCare in Delaware, one of the largest healthcare systems in the mid-Atlantic region. After graduating residency, Kenny became board certified in emergency medicine and a Fellow of the American Academy of Emergency Medicine.
Kenny and Angelique relocated to San Antonio, Texas and were married in 2018 surrounded by their close family and friends. Kenny joined the Greater San Antonio Emergency Physicians group as an emergency room physician delivering care in multiple hospitals and emergency departments across the city. In just a few years time, he was elected as the medical director of the Methodist Hospital Emergency Department and quickly became a leader in the South Texas Medical Center, helping to innovate and ensure equitable emergency healthcare delivery in the region.
In 2022, Kenny and Angelique welcomed their first daughter, Norah, and she became the light of their lives. Kenny never missed an opportunity to take Norah to the zoo, oftentimes with Norah happily perched on his shoulders. Kenny took pride in decorating Norah’s bedroom with images of baby animals and he loved to read bedtime stories to her as she fell asleep. Angelique is currently expecting and anticipating the arrival of their second daughter, Emma.
Kenny was an avid hiker and trailed across numerous national parks. He enjoyed traveling, with Costa Rica and Thailand as favorite destinations. He loved being outside and running was a passion for him, having recently completed the Big Sur Marathon on the California Coast. He was fiercely proud of his Irish heritage, with an Irish pub as one his favorite settings to have some shepherd’s pie and a beer. Kenny enjoyed cooking and barbecuing for Angelique, Norah, and their friends - whether it was crafting handmade pizza, with buffalo chicken as his favorite, or hours-long smoked brisket that he meticulously handled with the same care that he applied to all aspects of his life.
Kenny will be missed by many and by all who were lucky to interact with him. A visitation for Kenny will be held Monday, July 15, 2024 from 4:00-8:00 PM with Catholic rosary being recited at 6:30 PM at Sunset Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio, Texas 78218. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 16, 2024 at 10:00 AM at St Peter Prince of The Apostles Catholic Church, 111 Barilla Pl, San Antonio, Texas 78209. We invite those who are unable to attend his services to share their memories of Kenny and sentiments for Angelique, Norah, and his family here:
