Dr. Dirkson will be remembered as a kind and generous man, and a highly competent surgeon. Seven years ago, when i lost a big chunk of my upper lip while breaking up a dog fight, Dr. Dirkson was so kind as to do the reconstructive surgery for just $500, sparring me a lifetime of disfigurement. So sad to come across this obituary.

I am devastated to learn of Ken's death. I worked with him over 30 years ago at BAMC. I consider myself blessed to have seen him at the end of 2013. He was a gentle, kind, witty, and determined soul. He loved his children unconditionally and was proud of them. I also saw pictures of his grandchildren - which he doted over. My deepest sympathy to his wife, children, grandchildren, and others who are suffering.

Such a great friend. You were like a brother. I will truly miss our phone calls old friend. Children, he loved y'all so much.

Ken has and will always be held in great regard in my memories as a friend,and a classmate--the words "humanitarian and healer" are so appropriate. A small story I wish to share: My mother who is 91 asks after Ken at each of the Class of 66 reunions. She would see him walking home from school each day and he would always wave at her. Sounds rather un-impressive until you recall that in 1960's, Lebanon High School went through some difficult times in integrating the school; yet Ken transcended the pettiness and dignified his heritage and humanity through a lifetime of "good works" To his family, may his love and strength bring support to you in your grief. As we say Good Bye to Dr. Dirkson, let us remember that When the Father says, "Come home," and opens wide the door, we're sad because we cannot see our loved ones anymore, and yet we know, beyond the door, they're in a glorious place where everything is perfect, where they see the Savior's face; and He will send His Spirit down to soothe each grieving heart until we join our loved ones, home at last...no more to part. What a wonderful Dr. and a pleasure to work with at Northeast Baptist in Surgery...we had some great laughs and some great conversations, he always played the best music and would sing his lil heart out..i will always cherish the memories of him and his compassion that he had for his patients. He lived a wonderful life by the stories that he would tell and loved his kids so much, cause in surgery we talk about our loving families as well.

God's Peace be with each of you. I am part of Ken's Lebanon past.. He was a year behind be in school. We were true children of the 60's. I went one place he went to another. Just recently we started to talk to one another. These recent conversations will be part of my fire to tell the world about Ken and how he was such an point of light to all those who came into contict with him. His classmate Douglas Gaines has been by contact point here in Little Rock. You are in our prayers.

As a nurse, I had the honor and pleasure of working with Dr Dirkson at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center. He always treated his patients with such kindness, compassion and honesty.
