Kevin James Burke, age 62, passed away on Friday, October 24, 2025, in San Antonio, Texas with his wife Rosie at his side. He was born on June 17, 1963, in San Antonio, to parents Gilda Rose (Gorrell) Burke and Brian Peter Burke, Sr.
Kevin graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration Finance from the University of North Texas. He most recently worked as claims adjuster for USAA.
He was preceded in death by his father, Brian Burke Sr. Kevin is survived by his beloved wife, Rosie Burke; his mother Gilda Burke; his brother, Brian Burke, Jr.; sister, Shannon (Jim) Long; daughter Meagan Burke; granddaughters Noelle and Adriana; stepdaughter Ashley (Christopher) Tovar and granddaughters Amalia and Isabella Tovar; nephews Patrick, Adam and Charlie Burke, along with many cousins and other extended family members and great friends.
Kevin was a man of faith, which was exhibited in his daily life. He put his trust in God to see him through the difficult times. His grace was demonstrated every day in his unwavering fight against his cancer. He never once asked “why me” or complained. If he ever thought that he had gotten a little short with anyone, he immediately apologized. He was not afraid to die, his faith revealed to him there was salvation.
Family was everything to Kevin, he always wanted the family to get together. His definition of family was wide-ranging, everyone was family. His daughter Meagan was his world and what a gift she gave him with his two granddaughters Noelle and Adriana. He embraced being a grandpa, Pappoo was the name the girls gave him. He would light up every time they entered the room. Kevin was just a big kid at heart and loved playing games with all four granddaughters, just being his silly self.
His family included past and present friends, coworkers and all the organizations in which he belonged, he always gave his all. His sense of giving back and taking care of others was immense. Volunteering and helping those in need, always going the extra mile. He demonstrated this through all of his associations; Children’s Advocacy of San Antonio, Operation Turkey, Under the Bridge, Holy Trinity’s Angel Tree and Habitat for Humanity projects, as well as his membership as a Third Degree Knight of Columbus, always manning the fryers for Friday Lenten Fish Fry.
Always keeping busy, he loved his bike rides and social outings with the 210 Cycle Riderz. Developing great friendships with the benefit of clearing his mind and enjoying the outdoors. It was his salvation and comfort over the past years.
Kevin was blessed with such wonderful friends far and wide. When his cancer diagnosis was discovered, all wasted no time to make his dreams come true. Old friends started to visit Kevin from everywhere. A family trip to Boston for Mother’s Day, down to the coast and a lot of cook outs and pool time at Jim and Shannon’s house. Past coworkers sponsored a trip for Kevin, Rosie, and brother Brian to College Station to watch his beloved Notre Dame beat the Aggies. And how he loved attending the watch parties with the Notre Dame Club on Saturdays. His high school buddies and some that did not even know Kevin, took him to see Notre Dame play in the National Championship game in Georgia. Brian arranged for him to attend the Elks reunion and go fishing on Lake Erie. Kevin’s ultimate dream came true the year before with a trip to Ireland with Brian. Everyone wanted to make Kevin smile and laugh during the time he had left, to return the joy that he always brought to our lives.
Kevin was blessed to find Rosie, who brought even more joy into his life. He loved her fun-loving ways and faith in God. She was determined to stick by his side through better or worse. They were married on October 13th, 2025, and she was at his side when he passed on the 24th. A true love and a shiny light for Kevin and us all.
Kevin learned by the example from his sweet mom Tunie how to give of himself, unselfishly. Kevin would say that he was no angel, but we know that he was never malicious. He could be quite sly and devilish, but always with good intentions and in the name of having fun. He always took up for the underdog or took care of the less fortunate. He was a character and witty as hell. There was never a better friend, a more loving, charitable, and honorable man that could get you into fits of side-splitting laughter. We will miss you dearly Kevin.
