Kevin Lee Margulies, a devoted husband, loving stepfather, cherished son, adored brother and respected friend, passed away on March 19, 2025, at the age of 48 after a 17-month battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born on July 25, 1976, at Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Kevin lived a life marked by dedication, compassion, and an insatiable thirst for knowledge.
Kevin was the son of Charles and Sampaw Margulies, and he is preceded in death by his beloved mother, Sampaw and his dearly loved grandparents: Pelīyn and Khai Rungsri, Dr. Harold Margulies and Blanche Witkind Margulies Axelrod. He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Burgos Margulies, with whom he shared a beautiful partnership since they began dating in February 2012. Their love blossomed, leading to a joyful marriage on December 22, 2017, in San Antonio, Texas. Kevin is also survived by his stepchildren, Eric and Korin Burgos, his father Charles Margulies (Carol Merritt), his sister Ann Margulies (Michael Lilly), and a multitude of extended family of brother and sisters-in-law, uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a wide circle of friends who will forever hold him in their hearts.
Kevin’s journey was one defined by selfless service. He enlisted in the military on May 8, 1995, where he excelled as a Telecommunications Operations Controller and Microwave Systems Operator and Maintainer. His early career saw him at Fort Meade, supporting the National Security Agency (NSA), then Menwith Hill, England with the Royal Air Force and Brunssum, the Netherlands with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). Kevin transitioned into an all-source intelligence analyst at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, TX before deploying to Iraq in March 2007 for 13 months and then to Afghanistan in January 2011, where he served for an additional 12 months in support of the Global War on Terror. He completed his military service in June 2013, demonstrating the dedication and resilience that characterized his life.
Following his military career, Kevin transitioned into civilian life with the same commitment he had shown in service to his country. He worked as a Security Officer and Assistant Supervisor at Allied Barton from April 2013 to May 2016. He then joined the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as an Airway Transportation System Analyst, where he served until his passing in March 2025. While working for the FAA he developed a unique brotherhood with his colleagues. A connection was forged through their shared experiences, mutual respect and an unshakable sense of loyalty to each other. They never let each other fall and fought for each other like family. They carried Kevin through to the end – with love, and loyalty. Kevin’s educational achievements were significant; he earned his Associates of Arts in Computer Science and Mathematics in 2006 from the University of Maryland Global Campus, followed by a Bachelor of Applied Science in Computer Information Science and Mathematics in 2014 from Wayland Baptist University.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Kevin was a passionate learner with a fascination for History and an expert in firearms. He was endlessly curious, eager to learn, and possessed a remarkable memory that enabled him to engage deeply in a wide array of subjects. Kevin was a dashing conversationalist and displayed an empathetic nature, always kind towards others, and had an innate ability to bring people together. Kevin welcomed people as they were, never asking them to change. He didn’t care where you came from, what you believed, what you looked like, or how the world labeled you. He looked past the surface-level and saw the heart. His friends and family admired his natural leadership qualities, adaptability, and incredible fortitude in the face of challenges.
The family extends its heartfelt gratitude and is deeply grateful to Dr. Alex Holt and his team at Brooke Army Medical Center, as well as the numerous friends and relatives who have provided unwavering support during this difficult time.
A funeral service will be held on April 18, 2025, at 11:15 AM at Porter Loring Mortuary, located at 1101 McCullough Ave, San Antonio, TX 78212. A Committal Service will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, 12672 Silicon Dr suite 105, San Antonio, TX 78249 (or at woundedwarriorproject.org) to honor Kevin's dedication to his fellow servicemen and women.
Kevin Lee Margulies will be dearly missed but will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. His legacy of kindness, curiosity, and selfless service will remain an inspiration to many.
