Mom was a sweet, gentle, caring and humble soul. She was a wonderful mother who raised three children while pursuing her medical studies.
She practiced medicine for over 50 years. She was one of the first physical medicine and rehabilitation residents to graduate from UTHSCSA. During her career she was a researcher as well as a clinician. She was on staff at the Baptist Medical Center of over 20 years. Kiem Hoa generously helped many people both inside and outside the realm of medicine.
Mom spoke four languages-English, Indonesian, Dutch and Javanese. She played the piano well and had an angelic singing voice. Mom was also a wonderful cook. Her specialty was Indonesian cuisine.
Her passions included spending time with her grandchildren, gardening and her cats. Most of all mom was a wonderful mother and wife. We will miss her loving ways and gentleness. We take comfort that her spirit will continue to guide us.
Kiem Hoa is survived by her husband, Heng Oei; her sons, Thomas Oei and wife, Joan; David Oei and wife, Sue; her daughter, Mirah Ballard and husband, Steven: grandchildren, Kimberly Oei, Coleman Oei, Sara Ballard, Cori Ballard, James Oei and Laura Oei.
