Kim Marie Belzung, 53, of San Antonio passed away on April 20, 2020 at home surrounded by her loving family. Kim was born on May 17, 1966 in Houston, Texas to Ivan Douglas Belzung and Bonnie Harrison Friese.
Kim was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, niece and friend. Kim loved unconditionally and she never met a stranger. She had a beautiful, contagious smile. When Kim walked into a room – others couldn’t help but catch her smile and be attracted by her friendly presence. Her sense of humor always made people feel comfortable and cheerful.
Kim had a tremendous love and passion for animals that began when, as a young girl, she and her family lived in the country. She spent her every waking hour caring for her family pets and adopting every stray animal that happened to pass by. She was very active and successful in the 4H program and loved raising lambs and riding horses.
Kim lived a full and adventuresome life. She loved being outdoors – especially at the coast. Her most cherished moments were fishing at the coast with her son Kipp. Even after her diagnosis with cancer, Kim took a trip to the base of the Grand Canyon with a long time friend and a trip to the Florida beaches with her Great Aunt Pat and friends. She was also able to take a memorable cruise with her sister and their sons. One of her favorite sayings was “there are no ideas too wild – nor dreams too big”.
She courageously faced her lengthy battle with cancer – always remaining hopeful and optimistic through her endless treatments. Kim never felt sorry for herself or lost her sense of humor, feeling that there were always others with greater challenges than she faced.
Kim is survived by her beloved son, David Kipp Potter, her loving mother, Bonnie Friese, sister and friend Heather Belzung Yager and her husband Bill and nephew Jack; Aunts and Uncles – Jackie and Mike McEwen, Jill and Steve Souter and her cousin Kevin McEwen and his wife Frances. Great Aunts Pat Frye of Shepherdstown, West Virginia and Janice Whipp of Charleston, South Carolina
Kim is preceded in death by her husband Donald S. Potter, father Ivan Douglas Belzung, step-father Roland Friese and grandparents Lillian Western Harrison, James W. Harrison, Ivan Lloyd Belzung, and Peggy Staples Hooper.
The family would like to thank Texas Oncology and Care Givers from Heart to Heart for their compassionate care of Kim and support of the Family.
Due to current restrictions regarding gatherings, a private family ceremony will be held at Sunset Memorial Park on Thursday April 23 at 2:00 pm. Memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to the Animal Defense League of Texas at adltexas.org
