

Born April 26, 1950 in Cherokee, Iowa he graduated from Lee High School in San Antonio, Valedictorian from Concordia College, Austin, TX and with high distinction from Concordia Senior College in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He received his Master of Divinity degree from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis.
He served as the Pastor of congregations in Greenville, MS and Houston, TX before coming to Mt. Calvary. He was on the Board of Directors for the Texas District Church Extension Fund and served on various local and state boards of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League. He was a contributing writer to many Lutheran publications including the Concordia Pulpit.
Pastor DeVries was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Jessie DeVries.
He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Cathy; two sons, of whom he was very proud Thomas and wife, Elizabeth, Timothy and wife, Tara, as well as two precious grandsons, Nathan and Andrew. He is also survived by his two brothers, Jerry and wife, Carie, and Mark. He lived life ever thankful for God's grace. With his ministry he was able to show the love of God through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Porter Loring on McCullough Ave.
