Kim Fischer passed away Friday, April 15, 2022 in San Antonio, Texas after suffering a massive stroke that morning. She was born June 13, 1951 in Dubuque, Iowa, the daughter of Warrington and Dorothy (Dieterich) Wick. She graduated from Northwestern University in 1973 with a Bachelors in English literature. After teaching high school English for three years in Libertyville, Illinois, she married Michael Fischer June 26, 1976 in Dubuque. The couple soon moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where they raised their children, Josh and Sarah, and established their careers. Kim taught high school for three years in Albuquerque and then worked in communications and fundraising. Michael and Kim moved to San Antonio in 2000, when Michael became Vice President for Academic Affairs at Trinity University. Kim quickly became an important member of the Trinity community, hosting countless dinners, receptions, and parties. She loved bringing people together and making every social occasion special. Since 2009, Kim worked at the University of Texas San Antonio (UTSA), first as Director of Development for the College of Sciences and most recently as Chief Academic Development Officer. Kim loved people. She possessed immeasurable warmth and charm that was channeled into her incredible ability to engage others. She was kind, generous, and caring to everyone she met. Her beauty and lively spirit were only matched by her thoughtfulness for others.
She found purpose and meaning in her work at UTSA, her church, and time spent with her many friends. Above all, she loved being with her family, as a loving wife, devoted mother, and adoring Gigi (grandma). She was also an avid swimmer, walker, and golfer, and was most delighted when others joined her in those activities.
Kim is survived by her husband, son Joshua (Maggie Curnutte) Fischer, daughter Sarah Fischer, grandchildren William Fischer and Vivian Fischer, brothers Robert (Brenda) Wick, and David Wick, and sisters-in-law Jeanne (Michael Kafoury) Fischer and Jeri (Peter) Krentz.
