Krista K. Soria, age 43, passed away on Saturday, June 10 2017, in San Antonio, Texas. She was born on June 18, 1973 in Independence, Missouri to David C. Riggs and Susie (Hasty) Riggs. Krista attended Castle High School in Newburgh, Indiana and went on to attend her prerequisites at the University of Southern Indiana.
She was then accepted into the School of Occupational Therapy at Indiana University-Perdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI). Krista came to San Antonio, TX on a clinical rotation where she found and married the love of her life, Jose M. Soria. On July 10, 1999, they were married and years later became the proud parents of a handsome, perfect, little guy, Jose David Soria. Krista was a devout, nurturing, loving mother who embraced motherhood with such grace and confidence; once she became a mother she never made one move without her child's best interest at heart. She was also an excellent and supportive wife, daughter, sister and friend.
Up until early 2017, Krista was employed by North East Independent School District as an exceptional Occupational Therapist, with her Christ like traits; she was compassionate, humble, prayerful, gentle, loving, forgiving, patient and committed. Krista will be remembered for her beautiful smile which lit up any room, her unfaltering faith, her unique style, her clever Halloween costumes, her genuine/humble personality and her fervor to preserve and respect nature.
Finally, Krista will be remembered for her fighting spirit. Approximately 4.5 years ago, she was diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer, she looked Cancer straight in the eyes and said, "we're fighting!" During this time, she fervently battled cancer, all its side effects and at the same time, she created a group on Facebook naming it Prayer Friends. Prayer Friends grew to about 368 members and they prayed and journeyed alongside Krista every step of the way. This group was a true testimony of "who", Krista was; she bought people together, created friendships amongst total stranger which will continue to live, even after her lifetime.
In a true Krista manner, we leave you with this poem: "If ever there is a tomorrow when were not together, there is something you MUST ALWAYS REMEMBER…you are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem and smarter than you think…BUT, the most important thing is, EVEN IF WE ARE APART, I'll always be with You (Winnie the Pooh)."
She was preceded in death by her father, David Riggs. Krista is survived by her husband, Jose Soria; son, Jose David Soria; mother, Susie Riggs; sister, Kathy Riggs; best friend, Cindy Gilreath; dachshunds, Remi and Mabel and numerous extended family and friends.
The family will receive friends Friday, June 16, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
