

Kurt A.J. Monier age 88 of San Antonio, died Friday, March 7, 2003. He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church having served on the Vestry and as a Warden. Mr. Monier was a member of the Executive Council of the Diocese of West Texas and was a member of the commission on church buildings. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Texas A&M University in 1935. Mr. Monier has been associated with the mechanical contracting firm - A. J. Monier & Co., Inc. Since 1946 he served as manager of the partnership and President of the Corporation. In 1977, he assumed position of Chairman of the Board after William K. Monier took over direction as President of the Corporation. Mr. Monier served two terms of appointment by Governor of Texas on the State Plumbing Examiners Board as the Professional Engineer Representative and for two years served as Chairman of the Board. He was a Registered Professional Engineer licensed under the categories of Mechanical and Sanitary with registration No. 7699. He served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers retiring at the rank of Colonel. Mr. Monier was a life member and Fellow of the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, and Air Conditioning Engineers and Past President of the local Chapter. He was a Registered Professional Engineer in the state of Texas, a life member of Tau Beta Pi, the national honorary engineering fraternity, and was named "Engineer of the Year" in 1969 by the Bexar Chapter of the Texas Society of Professional Engineers. Mr. Monier also served on the Board of Directors and was Past President of the Builders Exchange of Texas from 1965-1971. He was Past President of the Mechanical Contractors Association of San Antonio, Past President of the Mechanical Contractors Association of Texas, Past President of the Mechanical Contractors Association of America, Past President The National Environmental Balancing Bureau, Past President of Associated Plumbing and Heating Contractors of San Antonio and Past Officer of state association. Mr. Monier was a Past President of Oak Hills Country Club, a member of the San Antonio Kiwanis Club, a 33rd Degree Mason and member of the Legion of Honor of the Order of DeMolay, Past President of the Board of Trustees of Southwest Texas Methodist Hospital, Past President of the Methodist Hospital Foundation, Past Chairman of the Board of the Central Branch-Y.M.C.A., former member of the Metropolitan Board of Management of Y.M.C.A.Vice President and Chairman of the Advisory Board of The Salvation Army. Preceded in death by his first wife, Frances Monier and son-in-law, Albert Steves IV and sister, Myrtle Monier Griffin. He is survived by his wife, Mr. Kurt "Ann B." Monier; daughter, Mrs. Albert "Martha" Steves; son, Will Kurt Monier and his wife Phyllis; grandchilren, Albert Steves V and his wife, Tricia, Frances C. Calgaard and her husband Kent, Kurt Monier Steves and his wife Amy, and Wesley Shay Monier; great grandchildren, Albert Steves VI, Georgia Estelle Steves and Kathleen Frances Calgaard.
