Born in Kilgore, Texas on February 9, 1956 to Louis George (L.G.) Dupre and Ada (Sissy) Maxine Dupre, Larry's journey took an adventurous turn when his father traded in his Baltimore Colts jersey for the iconic Dallas Cowboys. His family's relocation to Texas marked the beginning of Larry's own journey on the football field, proudly representing Highland Park and Texas Tech as a safety. His love of the sport became an integral part of his identity, mirroring the legacy of his father's storied career.
A successful mortgage broker, Larry handled financial matters with the same finesse he once used to tackle opponents on the field. Yet, his greatest triumphs were out of the office and field, where he embraced the roles that truly defined him—a loving father and an incredible friend who knew the heartbeat of our town. Larry, the mayor of camaraderie, knew everyone in town, turning every street into a stage for his friendly encounters.
Larry found solace and joy in the world of music. From the anthems of U2 to the timeless rhythms of Fleetwood Mac, Bruce Springsteen and The Rolling Stones, he enriched the lives of those around him with the beauty of music. Larry was a devoted Christian, an avid reader, had a love for history, and was an outstanding storyteller.
Larry and his former wife, Karla, crafted a playbook of friendship that withstood the test of time. Their bond weathered life's ups and downs, leaving an inspiring legacy of amicable co-parenting that echoes through the lives of their children, who were the center of his world.
He is survived by Karla Dupre and their five children: Meagan Burroughs and her husband Scott, Darby Dupre, Demi Dupre, Preston Dupre, and Delaney Dupre as well as two grandchildren, Sylvan Burroughs and Rem Burroughs. He is also survived by his sister, Nancy Dupre Guthrie and her husband Raymond, and his niece Jessica Barnhill and her husband Andrew, and their daughter Mary Louise.
In remembering Larry, let us celebrate the harmony of his life—the touchdowns, the successful deals, the shared laughter, and the music that moved his soul. As we navigate the silence left in his absence, may we find solace in the echoes of his laughter, the warmth of his gaze, and the enduring love he shared with us all.
Rest in peace, Larry, and may the afterlife be your grandest party yet.
