

Laura Pauline Ecuyer was born on December 15, 1965 in Lubbock, Texas to Mary Pauline Dunlap Ecuyer and Richard Joseph Ecuyer. When Laura was 2 years old, her family moved to New Orleans, Louisiana, her father’s birthplace. She graduated from Grace King High School in 1983, where she was a member of the color guard. One year, she was excited to march with the Grace King rifle corps in the Mardi Gras parade on Veterans Highway. After high school, Laura attended LSU in Baton Rouge, followed by LSU Nursing School in New Orleans. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1987.
Laura moved with her family to San Antonio, Texas in 1989. Looking for adventure, she joined the US Army Nurse Corps as a surgical nurse in 1993. Her first duty station was Eisenhower Army Medical Center at Fort Gordon, Georgia, where she was selected to serve on the open-heart surgery team. Her second duty station was Brooke Army Medical Center at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas. While on active duty, Laura earned the Army Achievement Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Army Service Ribbon. She was discharged in July 1999.
She then went on to teach in the Clinical Skills Lab at the UTSA Health Science Center. While teaching, Laura attended Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, receiving her Master’s degree in Nursing Education. She retired after teaching 18 years. Laura had a very creative mind. In retirement, she enjoyed traveling, painting and crafts. Throughout her life, Laura was a devout Catholic. She was so respected as a Catholic that she and her father were selected to be godparents to Elizabeth Moore.
She is survived by her sister, Mary Elisabeth Ecuyer of San Antonio, cousins Debbie Smith (Frank) of Lampasas, Texas, Scotti George (Christopher) of Reeds Spring, Missouri and son Ryker, and Elizabeth Moore (Joshua) of Lansing, Kansas and daughters Caroline and Charlotte.
The family will gather for visitation at Porter Loring Mortuary on Sunday, December 14, 2025 beginning at 5:00 PM and a Rosary will start at 6:00 PM. A funeral mass will be held on Monday, December 15, 2025 at 1:30 PM at St. Pius X Catholic Church, located at 3303 Urban Crest Dr., San Antonio, Texas, 78209. Laura will be laid to rest at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.
