

Lawrence Wayne Bowen “Larry” passed away at the age of 63 on Wednesday, July 14, 2021. He was a beloved son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend to many. He was preceded in death by his mother Helen Bowen. He is survived by his father Warren Bowen, and sisters Beth Hernandez, Brenda Van Shellenbeck (Karl), nieces and nephews, Michael and Jonathan Van Shellenbeck and Eric, Paul, Carmen and Sarah Hernandez.
Larry was born in San Antonio and lived most of his life here. He graduated from the NEISD and went to work at the Cerebral Palsy Center. He moved from home to semi-independent living at Independence Square and began working at Goodwill Industry’s workshop. From there he went to the Unicorn Center and was so happy to be part of their team. He loved Mondays and going back to work. He had an internship with WOAI television where he met many of the staff and had the wonderful experience of joining them on TV. In 1973 he was the poster child for the SAARC.
Larry was the honorary advisor for the Queen of All Saints Family Guild and dearly loved all the family guild members. He attended Shearer Hills Baptist Church and served as an usher there.
The last 5 years of his life, Larry lived at the Villa at Marbridge in Manchaca, Texas. He was part of the Marbridge family and received outstanding care from all the staff and caregivers there.
Larry loved music, especially Disney favorites. He brought out the best in people. He always had a positive outlook and was an inspiration to everyone.
