Lawrence "Larry" Puckett, age 85, went to be with Jesus on Sunday, December 14, 2014. He was born June 28, 1929 in Bristol, TN to Howard and Lena Jesse Puckett. He was a 3-sport letterman at Tennessee High School. Larry attended King College in Bristol before attending Philadelphia Bible Institute where he met the love of his life, Doris "Dorie" Kinzie. They were married on June 20, 1953 and one month after Doris' graduation, they answered God's call to minister to the Totonac Indians in the states of Veracruz and Puebla, Mexico, continuing for 41 years. Their ministry also involved participation in medical caravans with T.I.M.E for Christ Ministries. He was a bush pilot flying in and out of remote airstrips for 31 years in an era where the average life expectancy of a bush pilot was 6 months.
Upon finishing their calling in Mexico, Larry and Doris began ministering to the inmates of the Bexar County Detention Center with T.I.M.E. for Christ Ministries. They gave of themselves for 19 years until Larry's health no longer permitted.
In spite of Larry's poor health, they were privileged to minister through Manna at Castle Hills First Baptist Church, where they continued to share God's love with those in need until his precious Jesus called him home.
Larry will always be remembered by his friends and family for his strength of character, passion for lost souls, his quick sense of humor, and most of all, his loving devotion to his Lord Jesus Christ.
Larry was no stranger to struggles and loss. He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Philip, who went to be with Jesus at the age of 27. His was also preceded by his parents and his brother, Tom.
Larry is survived by his wife of 61 years, Doris J. Puckett; son, Larry Allen Puckett and wife Diana; daughters, Barbara A. Mendicutti and husband Oscar, Lisa Bell and husband Brent; ten loving grandchildren and seven beloved great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, December 18, 2014, at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
