Lee started me on my path of golf in 1978...he was a great teacher and i will never forget our standing golf lesson Sunday morning at Barrington Hills Country Club...all of his students will remember his teaching of the principles to the golf swing...our thoughts are with Jain and the family...he touched many lives Pat and Tom Erickson

Dear Jain and Family, 
Patty and I were very unhappy to learn of the passing of Lee so suddenly. Needless to say it was a great loss for all of us who survived him because he was such a kind and helpful person. Lee helped me a lot with my golf and we certainly had a wonderful trip with you and Lee when we went to Hawaii with the Barrington Hills group way back when. 
We are sorry we cannot attend the services but I am sure you know that we have had horrible weather here with 17 below zero last week and it was impossible for us to leave Bellwood since we still have horses and other animals to care for as well as to protecting our property from the record setting weather events here. You find comfort in reading the following poem: 
Im Free 
Dont grieve for me, for now Im free. 
Im following the path God has laid you see. 
I took his hand when I heard Him call. 
I turned my back and left it all. I could not say another day. 
To laugh, to love, to work, or play. 
Tasks left undone must stay that way.

A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss. 
Oh yes, these things I too will miss. Be burdened not with times of sorrow.

Our love, prayers and thoughts are with Jain and family. Our memories of great, good times with Lee and Jain over the many years we have been friends. We will always remember and hold Lee in our hearts, what a fun, good guy! He will be missed by everyone who knew and loved him.

On behalf of the Family of Bob Smith we would like to say what a great friend Lee Milligan was to our Dad - they were both golf pros who started out on the Trinity Golf Team together - they certainly had some great stories! They are probably teeing up right now in heaven!

Great teachers and mentors like Lee Milligan leave behind huge family trees. Just read and listen to the comments of people who knew him and whose lives have been influenced by him, and you will know what I mean. Lee was a natural leader. Although he didnt always have to be the center of attention he often was, simply because of his leadership qualities and because of his infectious humor, which spared no one including Lee himself. I became a teacher and a PGA professional because of Mr. Milligan. Hardly a day goes by when I am working with students that I dont think of him, and continue to learn from what he taught me. He started coaching me back in the early 1960s when I was a twelve-year-old trying to learn the game of golf at the Barrington Hills Country Club. Although as a player I was neither as gifted nor as dedicated as Andy North, Lee was always in my corner ready to help me make the most out of myself. I was a terrible complaining pain-in-the-ass kid, but Lee never lost his patience or humor or optimism with me. Im not sure how he did it, but today whenever I run into a similarly difficult student I remind myself to stick with them and dont quit because I owe it to Mr. Milligan. It surprises me all the time at how many good people I meet in the golf business that were mentored by Mr. Milligan. Its a testament not only to his ability hire well, but also to the fact that he operated with strong principles and everybody knew very well what they were. Lees sharp mind and humor could certainly cut you down to size, but the quality that I most remember him for and which I try to emulate was his ability to empower you as a student. He could really make you feel like somebody, as we used to say it. 
Man, he could really talk straight. Good news or bad news, hed look you straight in the eye and you knew when he was saying something to you that it meant something real to him. Golf may or may not be very important, but the things you can learn about yourself and the moments you can create in connecting with other people while youre making your way along in the game certainly are. I have been lucky enough to live my dream because of what Lee Milligan helped me to see in myself and come to believe about how best to go about your business. I owe a lot to him, continue to hold his memory very dear, and Im proud to count myself as a small branch reaching Lees influence out into the world. My prayers and condolences to Jain and all the kids for this loss.

What a great guy. He was very instrumental in getting me stronger in golf at Trinity. Lee came to golf course in SA a few years backo see Rogers Douglas and me play in a Trinity Lettermen Tournament. I will always remember Lee as one of the very best Nd will miss him greatly.

My deepest sympathies. I had the pleasure to work for Lee at the Barrington Hills Country Club. His humor and personality made it a great place to work and I'll always be thankful for the his kindness and the laughter he provided

My deepest sympathies to the family. Last time I saw Lee I was in San Antonio for the PGA Annual Meeting. He had 4 golf pros from Illinois in stitches for hours. That man could talk. I hope God realizes that he better be ready to sit down and listen, for he will never out talk Lee. He will be missed by all who knew him.
