It was Mother's Day 2005. My husband Leif and I skipped church to fix a festive lunch for the family. At the table we held hands and said a prayer of thanksgiving for every blessing we had, and every blessing we hoped to have. Moments later, the love of my life, my husband of 27 years, was gone. He went out on the porch to check on the home-made ice cream he was making and had a massive heart attack. 
Luckily, and horribly, we were all together. I started CPR. My daughter Sarah called 911. My son Jamie stood by, vigilant but shocky. The paramedics arrived almost immediately with advanced life support and Leif was rushed to one of the country's premiere trauma centers, which is just a few minutes away, but it wasn't enough. Initially, the hardest part was simply accepting the news. When the E-R doc told us Leif was gone, my daughter Sarah and I had anticipated it, but my boy, Jamie, was caught totally unaware. He threw himself to the floor and the sound that came from him is an experience I hope to never have again. In the difficult days that followed, my daughter couldn't stop crying and my son barely shed a tear. She was 22. He was 13. To understand the impact of the loss, you'd have to watch the video from Leif's memorial celebration. Hundreds of people filled a community center to capacity. He was that well-loved and respected. A popular personality who had worked in the radio business for about 30 years, Leif was the kind of person who lit up every room he ever entered. But beyond that, he was the perfect light-hearted jokester Daddy for our daughter and the genius 'fix-anything-that-breaks' inventor kind of fellow to our son.

For Sarah, a college senior, it was the day before final exams and it was four days after two extended families and about 70 friends had gathered for a surprise engagement party. Sarah's fiance Eric planned and executed an elaborate, tradition-rich, flower-filled, over-the-top romantic event to propose. Of course she said yes and thankfully we took lots of pictures and shot videotape that day, because it was our last chance to celebrate as the secure little loving family we had been. To sandwich absolute joy and total despair in the same week was, is, a very painful thing. Sarah and Leif were very close. It was common for them to talk every single day, even though she was in college several hundred miles away. The loss of that friendship has been particularly hard on Sarah at graduation and especially on her wedding day, when Leif was not there to walk her down the aisle. For Jamie, his Dad's death came at a particularly vulnerable time. He's a teen. It is time for him to grow into his own, but I worry if his behavior is typical teen rebellion or pain related to his loss. He's at a point where he wants to be mature and independent so it's hard for him to admit any kind of vulnerability. Generally, he's a good person and I am proud of the way he has coped, at least on a surface level. Jamie has always been a solitary sort, comfortable in his own company, but I wonder how much is too much and I pray that anger and resentment will not get the best of him at some point. Plus, there's all that guy stuff he still has to grow into. When he needed to wear a necktie to a dress up event, we went to a local fire station and asked the firefighters to help us out. That worked...but the finer points of shaving? And all that other male stuff? Yikes. Jamie says the toughest thing for him is that he wants to be the well-rounded man his father was, but time ran out before so many life-enriching lessons were learned. Tell the people you love how much you love them every single day. Don't waste a moment.

My uncle was a man of laughter and light. I think one of his goals in life was to make sure all who surrounded him knew that they were loved. I remember him saying once that if his daughter, Sarah, turned out to be anything like his niece, then he would be happy. Those are some of the sweetest words I have ever heard.

There is a cardinal rule at Planet Calberg. Take only pictures. Leave only Footprints. Well it appears as though someone has taken the footprints. An interesting thing I have discovered is that even in Death, Leif Hall Calberg is my best friend. Leif used to introduce us a Siamese Twins Joined at the Mind. He was the best man in my wedding and had Sharon been a boy, she was going to be Thomas Hall Jones. Nobody names their kid 'Leif'. Leif introduced me to Firesign Theater.

Leif introduced me to Swiss Army Knives.

And Leif introduced me to Sue. I wish he had introduced me to Tom Waits but that was C.J. over there. When I was at the bank, I financed Tranquility Base Productions for him. Then he taught me how to record and I founded Tesla Records. Then I discovered that Musicians have No Money and went back into banking. Because of Leif, I was Billy of Pete and Billy Pizza fame in Corpus Christi. Because of Leif, I was also the guy who said 'For the next 60 seconds this station will be conducting a test of the emergency broadcast system. This is only a test'. Because of Leif, there has been an annual pilgrimage to the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo. Because of Leif, there has been an annual pilgrimage to planet Calberg in order to dam up Solado Creek. It was on one of these trips that Leif and I were sitting outside at the campfire in the living room when he started talking about this Fender Stratocaster that he had been working on for 2 years and had finally finished restoring. He told me how he had shaped the body out of oak. How he had traded some advertising for a box of parts and pieces. How he had struggled with getting just the right finish. How he had been interviewing Robin Trower of Whiter Shade of Pale fame and had had him autograph the back. And then he reached around the back of the log he was sitting on and handed it to me and said 'Happy Birthday'. Because of Leif's King William house in San Antonio, there is now a Fairmount/Southside house in Fort Worth. Because of Leif, I am a much, much better person. I knew Leif when he was living in the Party Facilities of the San Pedro Drive in and I knew Leif when he was Production Director of 4 radio stations. I was there when he made Sue his bride. I was there when Sarah learned to talk. A somewhat regrettable event now that you think about it. I was there for Jamie's Go Cart. I was there for the can of spray paint in the bonfire. Both times. I was there for innumerable gadgets and inventions and all sorts of Clever Young Man things. Planet Calberg is a unique and wonderful place. I got an excited phone call from Sue one afternoon telling me only to 'Get Over Here'. If I'm not mistaken, I lived in Dallas at the time. As it turned out, Solado Creek had flooded and taken two telephone poles down. When I got there, it turned out that the idea was to cut a couple hundred yards of the cable out of the downed power lines and make a Zip Line for of Jamie's multi-story multi-tree skybridge treehouse. After surprisingly few trials and errors, including a rather startling drop from a non-insignificant height when I forgot to replace a piece of coat hanger wire with an actual bolt we were zipping. And are zipping to this very day. There was another time out during the San Pedro Drive In days when Leif had watched just a few too many cowboy movies, and he decided he was going to startle his next door neighbor. He laid out a line of black powder from the edge of the porch to the front door and then made a little pile. Or rather, from we had all seen in the movies, was judged to be a little pile. He knocked on the door and scurried over to the edge of the porch. When the door opened, he touched off the powder. Now everybody knows that when you light a trail of gun powder, it burns like a fuse. In reality, "ThermoNuclear Detonation" comes to mind. Actually, there is nothing that describes it. You just had to have been there. The last time I saw Leif, this story came up and we laughed once again until tears welled up in our eyes. And as we say here in Texas, a good time was had by all. Because of Leif, I sat in the DJ's chair at the Sacred and Holy 'KONO.' Leif taught me that if you know what something looks like when it's working properly, you'll know why it's broken just by looking at it. Leif tried to teach me that the best engineering is ridiculously over engineered engineering. That didn't actually take. For years and years and years I had been struggling to Calm Down. One evening, he patiently waited for me to finish and said these simple words. You don't need to Calm Down, you need to Slow Down. Leif taught me that most people are so busy doing their jobs that they have no time left over to do their work. Leif taught me that you don't talk about the gadget you just built. You talk all about the first time you made one with your Dad. Leif taught me that Assessing the Blame does not get the Tool out of the Well. Interestingly enough, Leif taught me a long, long time ago that Life is not only Precious, but Short. So live it accordingly. Leif taught me to tell my Wife I love her every single morning. Leif taught me to tell my kids that I love them every single night. And certainly not last and certainly not least, Leif taught me how to play this song. go into Winin' Boy

Leif Calberg was a wonderful man. I had the pleasure of working with him years ago @ KONO/KITY radio station. He was always upbeat and had a very positive attitude about life. I know he is with God in heaven.

Leif and I spent a lot of middle-of-the-day time together when our children started going to school. Both having odd schedules and living a couple of houses away from each other, we often shared tools and tunes and labor. I helped him build his infamous attic recording studio, and we recorded a cassette of my songs up there. Lacking a label to release it, Leif kindly created Calberg Productions for that purpose. Everyone remembers Leif as a very funny guy, which he was. But the thing he said that I remember best wasn't funny. It was: "One of the things in life that you can truly never get enough of is trading songs on the front porch with friends." It's been a long time since we did that, but I think of him every time I take a guitar out on the front porch. He was just a wonderful friend, and it did not matter how long it had been between conversations.

So here I stand trying to pay a fitting tribute to my dad. He was my hero- when anything broke, you could be sure that NO matter HOW many trips to Home Depot it took Daddy, do we really NEED 6 2x4's around this window?- Don't worry, it'll be safer that way in a tornado.- But what about the rest of my rickety room?- Just crouch by the window and leave me alone! If there was a vile little cockroach that needed dispatching, he was always there to get it he'd chase me around the house a few times with it in a napkin first, but eventually it would be gone. He was my book-nerd, all the times this year I called him to say "Dad! I got a 64 on a Biochem test-that's a C!" and he'd say "that's great honey, I got a 100 on my bones test." Showoff! He was the best musician I knew. Not many take all night requests of Puff the Magic Dragon or Pony Man. Trust me, there's never been an artist more excited when his audience falls asleep! Speaking of sleep- there's never been a girl more terrified even at 22 to wake someone up daddy.....da-ddy....DA-ddy...DADDY! SNORT!!!!! It freaked me out EVERY time! He was my juggling star who tried to be cool. Not only would he juggle an egg, a butter knife, and a lemon just to make me laugh, he'd also assume I wouldn't tell anyone when he dropped the knife in the fairly new linoleum floor Mommy! Guess what Daddy did! He also happened to be the master of hip. He was so "down with it", every time my friends came over he'd make sure they knew things were "groovy" or "far-out" much to the amusement of my hip young friends. He was my comedian, who can forget his aunt, the mother superior at the convent? I am proud of my daddy. He had more people that loved him than you can shake a few sticks at. I had an autograph book when I was little and asked him to sign it so he signed it "yer Radio Dad". Granted sometimes I was a little jealous to share him with that box in your car, but that's what made him special to so many. His gregarious, outgoing, loving, peaceful, beautiful, soul made a lasting impression on everyone he met. My family, my friends, my Aggies, and I stand blessed to have you all here in this beautiful location for this fitting tribute. We all stand here blessed because we knew and loved a dynamic, comedic, effervescent, unforgettable man. My Daddy.

Dear Sue, Sarah and Jamie, Leif was such a shining light, always glad to see you with a smile that just made you feel all warm inside, and loved. How like Leif to be making homemade ice cream on Mother's Day! How few people make homemade ice cream anymore? Leif was always like that, living deliberately, living fully, in a way few others do. I saw Leif just about a month ago for the first time in a long time. He told me how happy he was about your new fiance, Sarah. He said about you, "We did it right." 
Sue, Leif always had such fun things to say about you..."Sue did this, Sue and I did that." He clearly was always in love and always having fun in his marriage! Jamie, your dad was so proud of you when I saw you guys at the Circle. You probably didn't notice it, when you walked into the room and he secretly and proudly pointed you out as his youngest. I miss Leif. Even though I didn't see him often, I felt he was 'always there.' I take to heart what you said, Sue, about loving many deeply, and especially telling them so, as Leif always did. Dear Sue, My prayers are with you. I saw the article in the paper, but couldn't let myself admit that this pain and loss had come to you. I finally called the station and sheepishly asked if you were the Sue Calberg who had lost her husband. Your colleague very graciously and gently shared the news with me. He told me about the "celebration of life" that you had for your husband last night. Knowing, you, it seemed so right. I am glad that the people you work with love you so much and are there with you at this time. Jesus wept when he lost his best friend Lazarus, even though he knew that he was being gently held in the arms of the Father. He cried, not for Lazarus, but for himself and his friends. I pray that you will let Jesus softly wipe your tears away, and help you and the children celebrate that something wonderful that you all shared with Leif. I read this week that the name we give God, "Abba", really means "You have a God who loves you very much". I know that Leif is feeling that love today, and will share it with you in a special way through eternity.

The celebration of Leif yesterday at Aggie Park was such fitting tribute to a fantastic husband, father, and friend to so many of us! His pride and love for you in earthly life and now in his eternal life could not have been more obvious to him yesterday as he could see for himself from his heavenly view that you have so much support and love from your family, friends,the community, and the Celebration Circle. He will be walking beside you every moment of your future, and I hope when the clouds of sadness clear that each of you individually and collectively will remember and reflect, as will we who had so much love and respect for him, on the many rainbow days of happiness spent together as you write new chapters in your family book to carry on his mission creating a better world for all whom he touched in his life. 
Leif is now the 12th man speaking and guiding you from the heavenly team of angels. Who knows, he might even get the Aggies to a championship this year!

You wouldn't know me but I had the pleasure to work with Leif on two projects over the years. 
In the late 1980s, Leif and I worked together as announcers for Paragon Cable's real estate showcase, where we narrated descriptions of houses for sale. 
Then in 2001, Leif narrated a corporate video I was coproducing. 
He was always so professional yet friendly and fun to be around.

Leif was a great friend and engineer. I remember when he brought me a Beatles song that he had edited where all the lyrics were moved around. I was impressed. God Bless.

Actually, I remember one particular conversation with Leif a few years ago while I was working at Coxeast and he was at Coxwest. We were on the phone talking about gifts, just after Christmas. What struck me was his absolute joy as he explained what he did. He said he'd been putting together a gift for Sue. If I remember correctly it was an adinorack chair He'd been working on it in the back for weeks. He then described her expression as he unveiled the chair he'd made her. Funny, most of us would have just gone out and bought the chair. Not Leif. He taught me something that day that I remembered just this last Christmas. So I spent innumerable hours collecting and editing home videos and prepared a short musical video montage of our son from birth to present for Margaret. It was a heck of a project. But to see the look in her eyes while she watched it made all that work worth it. Leif knew...it was what he put into the gift that really made it...a gift. A good lesson to learn from a good man. I?d like to tell you a little about the last week we shared. 
Last Wednesday, 8 days ago, the whole extended family went to A&M for Sarah?s surprise engagement. Sarah is only 22, and many people have asked if we were nervous about her making a big choice at such a young age. But one of Leif?s greatest joys was that Sarah had found her soulmate in Eric Thompson?and we are absolutely comfortable with the promise their life holds. That was Wednesday. A memorable day with plenty of photos. 
Thursday, a week ago, Leif came home from massage therapy school so jazzed up about what he was learning he had to go out to his shop and play the dij to unwind. He was absolutely full of joy on Thursday. 
Friday, our friend Kevin called to tell Leif about a coffee shop event with dij music. So Leif went there and came back elated to have enjoyed a good place and good people and good music?and that was Friday. 
On Saturday, Leif shopped for my Mothers Day present at the cosmetic counter at Foley?s. You all can imagine how uncomfortable he felt there, but he loved me enough to overcome his fear of the fancy. He was as excited as a child to buy me an exfoliating foot massage product, and he promised many moments of pampering, which made us both giddy. 
On Sunday, his final day, we spent a good morning together, fixing a fine Mother?s Day meal. We held hands and said grace and expressed our sincerest gratitude for every blessing we?ve had?and hoped to have. 
When Leif went outside to see to the homemade ice cream on the porch, he slipped and fell into internity, but it was actually a trip up into the heavens, a journey into our hearts, where his ebullient spirit will no doubt live on forever. 
It takes a village to raise a child and to make a marriage and to build a community in love. We know that you all, our tribesmen, will make sure that his legacy of joy will rock on. 
If you want to have a wondrous life, love many. 
And if you want to honor Leif?s memory, please love many, deeply?and tell them so every single day, sometimes two or three times a day. 
We love you all.

Sue I will never forget a telephone conversation I heard Leif have with you one afternoon. I was talking with him in his studio about a spot. You called him on his cell phone. Leif stopped our conversation to chat with you for a few minutes. He spoke so loveingly to you. He sounded like a newlywed, not a man who had been married for many years. I left his office that day with a whole new respect for him. I had seen a moment of Leif, the dedicated husband to Sue Calberg, that I had never seen before. Sue, it seems that you and Leif shared the kind of relationship that most can only wish for. You are a truely blessed woman! I met Leif and Sue at SAC in the RTF program. Wonderfully, they found each other there, and I attended the wedding in King William. What a voice! The world will miss this fine and creative soul. What a great guy!

Leif, I can't beleive your gone. I keep expecting you to walk into my office with your usual "Good darling my morning". I miss you so much. Thank you for being such a good friend to me. You always wanted to make sure I was ok, and when I was in the hospital, you couldn't stay away. You had to come by to see me and give me the silly Delbert Cartoon Book, in which you wrote "Two weeks off for a tummy ache? The Gall!! You were so proud, you found it on sale! I will always think of you when I read it. How many times did I talk you out of quitting your job because of the demands of this crazy business? I'm so glad I did because I would have missed out on the fun times we had joking around and trying to keep our sanity. Until we meet again, keep on doing the things you loved like writing songs or fixing something. Maybe then you can sing me your newest song or show me something you have made. Dear Sue, I'm so very sorry to hear of the death of your Beloved Husband and Father of your children Lief. I had the joy of working with Leif at Cox Radio. He was one of my favorites. I liked working with Leif because you always knew where you stood with him. He was a man comfortable in his own skin. A man comfortable with his world. When you walked into Leif's office, it was immediately apparent that his family and friends were the most important thing to him. Pictures, the kid's artwork and other treasures decorated every inch of his space. Leif was so proud of his family and literally beamed with pride when he would tell us stories about Sarah at A& M. Leif beamed with pride when he would show drawings and sculpted animals that Jamie had left laying around the house. These things were gold to Leif. If you spent two minutes talking with Leif about things, you would leave knowing the love he had for his two kids and Sue. I've been trying to imagine Leif's arrival up in heaven. I see him being greeted by his mom and dad and other family members...and then I see Larry Blue showing up...and B Bailey Brown...and Val...and Shawn...hugging all over him. All members from his Cox family. Leif's an angel now and if I make it up to heaven some day, I know I'll spot Leif right away. He'll be the angel with the safari hat and Hawaiin print angel wings. I keep thinking I see the words "free thinker" in the newspaper tributes. Maybe they are there. I can see how many lives he touched even before becoming a massage therapist tho. I think that would make him happy, he was already massaging people even if he didn't know it at the time!

Leif---my brother from another Mother! I will remember you fondly always. I've been hanging around radio stations for a long time and by far your talent was immense. I will miss your wit, your charm and your voice. But mostly, I will miss your friendship. What a precious obituary! This is such a vague memory, but soon as I saw Leif's name, I knew it was the disc jockey I met way back in the mid-70s! Either he, or his roommate drove a convertible VW "Thing." Leif was kind, compassionate & such a carefree, alive soul! We sat & listened to music, discussing music all evening. I remember loaning him or his best friend a book "The History of Redneck Rock." I am chuckling at the vague details, yet the clear & distinct memory of what a warm soul I recall him being. Three days later and we are just now beginning to find the words. How will we ever be able to gather together as a family without his goofy jokes, his big laugh, his love of onions, his harmonica tribute at every birthday? A get together will never again be complete without those great shoulder massages he gave! He intentionally gave M.E. a ride on his shoulders, saying he might not be able to do this much longer last Wednesday night at Aggieland and had her squealing with glee. What a great memory for me and one I will love to share with her when she is old enough. I will always remember how he loved you three, and how much love he shared with us all. We will share his memory with you forever, and we will never forget.

Leif was a good man and an excellent person. I am glad that I was able to work with him at cox. He taught me about production, being a good father and always try to keep things in prospective. Do your best and everything will be alright. I will always remember he was the first person that I had ever seen put honey in his coffee. He said that Texas honey is the best. I do agree. Thank you for teaching me and for also being a friend, and thank you to his family for sharing him with all of us. His heart was as big as the universe. May God Bless everyone.

Leif Calberg was one terrific guy who will be missed by all who knew him. His wit and charm were unmatched. In the years we had worked together at Cox Radio, I always looked forward to coming to work in the afternoon and seeing Leif's smiling face...we had much in common and quite often would discuss the "good old days" and what was going on while we were growing up in different areas of the country. Leif, how I wish I could be there to celebrate your big day! As you know I have a Daughter who lettered in three sports as a freshman this year and her first Athletic banquet is on your big day. I know the way you supported your children, you would much rather see me do this for my child. I know I will never be a perfectionist like you, although you tried your best to get that Buckisim out of my vocabulary and it has helped but as you know I don't think that is ever going away totally. My dear friend. I hope you're playing with all of your long gone guitar heroes. You deserve it. It's hard to believe we met nearly 30 years ago, and studied RTF together. I still remember your wedding... and mine and Mary's. You looked fab in a TUX. We miss you terribly, and after seeing the long list of tributes, I know the numbers are many. I'll always remember you, your laughter, your talent, and yes, the time SHAMUS almost knocked me down, when i drove up, and he didn't recognize me. You laughed out loud every time you remembered that story. we bothed laughed at the thought that we each had a tape of us singing ME AND JULIO, that we recorded one beer-filled afternoon. Gotta go look for that tape, so sing ME and JULIO while you're up there, and i'll be harmonizing, and whistling down here. LOVE MARK

Leif you will truly be missed. I grew up listening to you and was honored to "jamm" with you in our work related band. Your free spirit and sense of humor was a blessing.

All the years the Hildebrands and Calbergs have shared the ups and downs of our lives, it was always reassuring to talk to Leif. He was a soulmate to many and we feel blessed to have had him in our lives.

Leif was an excellent individual with whom I had the upmost pleasure knowing and calling him my friend. I always enjoyed talking to lief about the status of the Star Wars, SPURS and Red Sox not in that order of course. We also talked alot about Jim Croce and Guitars and drank numerous cups of coffee too many to count. He was exceptionally kind to my son Jojo and always took the time to teach my son the "Secrets of Juggling" and he would ask my daughter Jackie how her old man was handling her High School attitude. Yes, I will miss Leif tremendously, but I will also celebrate his kind attitude toward all and his giagantic heart with whom he shared his goodness with. I will try to carry on his tradition with all the individuals I continue to meet with everyday of my life. To Jaime, Sarah, and Sue thank you for sharing him with us, it has been a honor and extreme pleasure to have known such a great talent and human being. Leif I will see you in the great production room in the sky, please save me a place in the Kingdom of Heaven.

I was so blessed to have worked alongside you this past year. I've learned so much from you, not just about production, but about life and living it the fullest. I'll miss your stories, your jokes, and your words of wisdom. I'll be sure to make a detour from Culver's Butter Burger this week and have a Fuddrucker's burger for ya amigo. Sue, Sarah & Jaime...May God Bless you all during this trying time, Leif was so loved and he loved you all very much.

We send our prayers to Sue, Sarah, and Jamie. Leif will be missed by us and remembered fondly. I cannot even begin to understand how fragile life really is after seeing him just days ago but I know his family is strong and will make it through this difficult time.

He was my daddy, he was my friend, he was my comedian, he was all things good, fun, and true to me. He helped make me who I am today. My heart is broken but it is hard to be sad when every memory makes me giggle. He saw me get engaged to the most wonderful man on earth, he will see me get married, he will watch over me, my mom, my brother, and eventually my children. My children will know all the good things and feelings their grandfather gave to me. Now instead of having to call him to tell him my troubles or triumphs- he will be there with me. He is and always will be my hero, my cockroach dispatcher, my protector. I sure love my daddy.

What a guy!!!! Leif and I worked together at least once a month on the Southway Ford radio spots. I did the talent but he's the one that made me sound great! He was certainly the best!! We worked really well together and became friends. He's actually partially responsible for my current position at VIA as he was one of my references and made me sound like I was the next best thing since sliced bread! I will miss him terribly. He always had a way of making you feel special. I'll miss you Hoja Floja Loose Leif!!!

Man, this was a REAL shock.... "Loose Leif" and I used to share our lack of hair jokes with each other all the time around the radio station and our Scandaniavian heritage...figuring that we might be lacking some due to our or at my distaste for Sardines and Lutefisk. 
 Used to love to listen to Leif and his clever bits he would do, as well as the conversations we would have. A very intense person, yet very, very likeable, and extremely talented. 
I really cannot say enough about this fine person and I am very saddened of his passing. I think that we all know that he is waiting for us when our time comes as well.

Sue, Jamie, Sara, Leif has always been a friend ever since we first meet at S.A.C. He walked up to me and introduced himself as "Loose Leif" and I knew, this was a guy I needed to hang with. 
Leif is also the fastest draw in the west when it came to one liners. He always had one, and it was always new. 
I too shall miss him. 
Our world has lost a real talent, dad, and husband.

My mother passed away on Christmass Day 1999. Fitting to go be with the lord on that day especially since my mother was a minister. Every Christmas Day, we give mom a toast to salute her new life. Maybe you will find in your hearts, that every mother's day is a special day to give thanks and to toast that funny, funny man who is now with his parents.

I am always at a loss for words at a time like this. Leif was a good friend and co-worker. I will miss him.

I have fond memories of hearing "Loose" Leif on the air before my radio career even began. I then had the pleasure to work with him and I am thankful to have known him. I'll miss the one-liners and super fast comebacks. Till we meet again.

To all the Calberg family, We have had the pleasure of knowing Sue and Leif through our joint involvement with the Winston School of San Antonio. While we have never had the chance to spend a large amount of time together , we have always considered them to be our friends. Leif was aman who was always ready to help others. He put his family first in his life and truely loved his wife and children. When I think of him a few adjectives immediatly pop in to my mind ; Nice Guy, Funny, very funny, loving, generous, hard working, friendly. Judging from our brief time toghether I am guessing he never met a stranger. Leif was a true gentlemen and one of the best people I've ever met in radio. He will be missed. I feel as if I've lost a mentor.

It seems like just a few years have passed since I attended Leif and Sue's wedding. At first I thought his big smile was the usual groom's joy, but over time it was pretty clear that it was a permanent fixture. It's been a while since I've seen either Leif or Sue, but I knew that they had established a happy and stable family life. I knew that together they followed their hearts and tackled challenges as good partners do. From a distance I was happy for them. Now from a distance I share Sue, Sarah, Jamie and other family member's sorrow. Without a doubt,Leif's spirit and energy will continue to grace your lives. May all your memories give you strength to endure your pain.

On May 20, 1998, Eva, my wife of 32 years and the best friend I ever had passed suddenly, just as Leif did on Mother's Day. Since that time, the month of May has held a special place in my heart and the hearts of my five children. With Leif's passing, there is one more reason for us to remember those who have gone before us, and know that life is a precious gift to be cherished each and every day. May God bless Sue, her family, and all whose lives Leif touched in so many ways.

Sue...I am unable to attend anything as I am going into surgery Wednesday morning. Leif knew of this. But....I do not want to let you and others know of a couple things. I am going to miss his "Good Morning Chief" everyday he came in. I am going to miss his accusing me of hiding his lunch. Deservedly at times, but then I was questioned and accused anytime he forgot where he had put it in the first place! I am going to miss flying with him in a B25, a B17 and with the Red Baron in the Stearmans. It was all a blast. Memories forever, Sue. He enjoyed showing me the chain he had carved for Jamie and Sarah. The digiroo sp? he made. Hey! Those were good! 
I was by the house last Wednesday evening when you went to A&M for Sarah's engagment announcement. I saw the van there. I was sooooooo close to calling him and saying "What a neat idea to keep fomr getting your van stolen...putting it up on blocks and taking the wheels off." But I didn't knowing the memorable event you all were going to. I did tell him that Thursday morning though! He saw the humor. I will miss that. His humor. His friendship. Now God has the "worlds best Production Man"!\...Paul

Leif will be truly missed at Careco Multimedia, his voice is and alway will be part of our "Fishing and Hunting Texas" and "Americana Outdoors" programming series. Leif has been working with Careco for so many years, he is just one of the family. Leif touched my life daily as he had many others. He was the most wonderful person to work with and he truly loved his family. He would tell me some story about his kids and wife everyday. I remember him being mad at me on Friday because I was unable to meet his soon to be new son-in-law, Eric who came to visit us at the station. He forgave me when I explained that I had to run and pick up my daughter, whom he playfully teased as he alway did when he saw her. As I left for work this Monday, my daughter wanted me to tell everyone that she was very sorry about Leif, as we all are. I did so, and now I'm letting Sue, Sarah and Jamie know also. I don't think I've ever been so blessed to work with such a wonderful and giving person. He loved his family deeply and it showed every day. I will miss him. I thank his family for sharing him with us.

While obviously saddened by Leif being taken from us so soon, I can't help but smile when I think of him. I had the pleasure of working with Leif a few years ago at Cox Radio. He held my hand when I first started radio as the promotions director for Smooth Jazz 106.7. He had and always will have the "smoothest" voice in radio. God bless you Sue, Sarah and Jamie.
