

He was born February 1, 1906, at Winfield, Lincoln County, Missouri to H.S. and Elva East Mize.
Mr. Mize graduated from Baptist Junior College in LaGrange, Missouri, then from Central Methodist College in Fayette, Missouri, then taught school for two years at Annada, Missouri, was Principal for two years at New Hartford, Missouri, and taught for two years at Silex, Missouri High School.
He married Pauline E. Shocklee June 1, 1929.
He taught for four years at Hickman High School in Columbia, Missouri. He received a Master's Degree in Secondary School Administration from the University of Missouri in 1935. He then became Principal of Washington, Missouri, High School.
He resigned in February, 1943, to join the American National Red Cross. After training in Washington, D.C., he was assigned as Assistant Field Director at Camp Swift U.S. Army Post at Bastrop, Texas, and later transferred to Kelly Air Force Base in 1944.
In 1951 he was assigned to Elmendorf Air Force Base and Fort Richardson, in Alaska. At the end of his tour he was reassigned to work with Red Cross Chapters in Illinois.
In 1957 he was assigned as American Red Cross State Relations Officer for the state of New Mexico with residence in Santa Fe.
In 1965 he was given a chance to move back to Texas and he became Deputy Field Director at Fort Hood, Killeen, Texas.
In 1967 he had a one year assignment as Field Director at the U.S. Naval Station in Keflavik, Iceland.
In 1968, he was transferred to Randolph Air Force Base in San Antonio. In 1970 he was named interim Field Director at Fort Sam Houston, where he retired in 1971.
He is predeceased by his parents, one brother, his wife, Pauline July 1, 2001, and one grandson.
He is survived by six children, Mary Elva Sanford, Leota E. Hurt, Robert A. Mize, Mona Ann Powell and Judy K. Gleaton, all of San Antonio, and Leo E. Mize, Jr., of Milpitas, CA; as well as 14 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren; and sister Evelyn Thurmon, of Troy, MO.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, February 10th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Porter Loring.
