Leon Estes, Jr. went to be with the Lord on May 11, 2015, at the age of 93. He was born in Taylor, Texas to Leon Sr. and Theresa Estes. In 1942, he was called to serve his country in World War II. He served in the Army Air Force. On February 27, 1945, the B17 plane he was in was shot down and crash landed. The crew became Prisoners of War. In the late 1950’s, he and his father built The Texan Ice House on West Avenue in San Antonio. He raised horses, farmed and spent many hours dancing. He loved the old country and western music and loved to dance at the Farmer’s Daughter.
He is survived by his children Le Ann Piatt (Earl) and Leon (Bubba) Estes, III, grandchildren Zachary Piatt, Shari (John) Pate, and Terri (Bob) Roberts, and great grandchildren Hailey, Peyton, and Daniel Roberts. Visitation will be held Sunday, May 17, 2015 at Sunset Funeral Chapel from 5PM to 7PM. Funeral services will be held Monday, May 18, 2015 at Sunset Funeral Chapel at 9AM, followed by interment at Fort Sam Houston Cemetery. A reception will follow at The Texan beginning at 11AM.
