Along with practicing law, he organized and managed many ranch investment groups. Most ranches were in the Texas hill country; others in southwestern Colorado and Belize. He developed several subdivisions, including Bandera River Ranch. He practiced law for 52 years in San Antonio, Texas and was given the highest possible rating, AV, by his peers. He was active in civic activities in San Antonio and served as president of the downtown Optimist Club and Northwest Rotary Club.
He was an active member of Coker United Methodist Church, as well as Travis Park United Methodist and St. Stephens United Methodist before that. He helped organize Roy Mass Youth Alternatives and served on its board since its inception.
