

Leopoldo L. Olvera, born in Comonfort, Guanajuato, Mexico, entered eternal rest peacefully surrounded by his children on July 6, 2019 in San Antonio, TX at the age of 85. He migrated to the United States as a child with his family, married Cristina Perez, the prettiest girl in town, and brought her to Chicago where they raised their seven children.
Beloved by many, Leopoldo was admired for his devotion to family, generosity, unrelenting work ethic, and good humor. He was a proud “master of road trips,” car repair genius, and a craftsman with an extraordinary ability to reengineer any toy, tool, or appliance. His claim to fame, being the first portable LVAD pump recipient and “living on overtime” after receiving a heart transplant in 1996.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Cristina, his parents Francisca and Vicente, his siblings Jose, Pedro, Carlos, Gloria, and Sergio. He leaves behind to cherish his memories and life lessons his children: Adriana Olvera Lopez and husband Sergio, Christina Cruz and husband Manuel, Sandra O. Ortiz and husband Luis, Jacqueline Olvera, Leticia Olvera-Franco and husband Jesus, Irene Olvera Cruz and husband Juan Carlos, and Leopoldo Olvera. He will be missed dearly by his grandchildren: Erica, Marcos, Jesús, Cristina, Nicolas, Vicente, Julian, Cristian, Tomás, Viviana, Ernesto, Sol, Juan Carlos, and Joaquin. His legacy lives on through his great grandson Aurelio. He will be remembered by his siblings Sara, Lilia, and Napoleon and a host of other family members and friends.
The family will receive family, friends, and guests at the Sunset Northwest Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 9, 2019 from 2:00PM-8:00PM with a rosary recital at 6:00PM. Leopoldo’s final resting place will be in Comonfort, Guanajuato, Mexico, next to his wife.
