Leslie was born on the 28th day of May of 1940 in Waco, Texas to Lillian Sagor and Leon R. Collins and grew up with his older sister Maxine (Mackie), whom he adored. He graduated from Waco High School and attended college at TCU and then Baylor University.
After working for the family business in Waco, Leslie moved to San Antonio to run the family-owned retail shoe store, Carr’s Outlet. In 1964, his sister set Leslie up on a blind date with Meryl Siegel. After attending a movie and dancing at the Petroleum Club with Mackie and her husband Selig Carr, Leslie found the love of his life. Meryl and Leslie married on July 3, 1966, at Temple Beth El in San Antonio surrounded by family and friends followed by a wedding reception at the St. Anthony Hotel.
Leslie and Meryl had several moves over the years but lived in Austin, Texas for more than 20 years, where they raised their two (2) boys – Lee and Jeffrey. Throughout his career, Leslie worked in retail; he and Meryl owned and ran Trifles, a luxury retail boutique for women in Austin. Leslie made friends easily; he could talk to anyone and always listened to you as through you were the most important person in the room.
Family always came first for Leslie. He enjoyed his last 12 years living close to his grandchildren in Houston. He was known as “Big L” by his grandkids.
Leslie is preceded in death by his parents and beloved sister Maxine Carr Roth.
