

Lewis Eugene Gravelin passed away at Kindred Hospital, surrounded by family, on September 16, 2015 in San Antonio, Texas due to natural causes. He was 69. Mr. Gravelin was born on April 10, 1946 in Fresno, California to Gerald and Maurine Gravelin. He joined the US Army in 1963 and served in the Korean Conflict. He achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant, earned an Expert Field Medic Badge, and received two Army commendations. He retired honorably in 1983, then went on to serve as a paramedic and police officer, was a member of the Military Order of Cootie and of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Mr. Gravelin is survived by his half-brother, Leon Gravelin of Reno, Nevada; his daughters and sons-in-law, Sherrl and Jefferson Carpenter of Austin, Texas; Frances and Daniel Barcenez, Cathy and Michael Veith, his grandson Aidan Veith; and the mother of his children, Betty Lee Gravelin of San Antonio, Texas. He is preceded in death by his sister, Monette Fischer and brother, Tommy Gravelin.
Mr. Gravelin will be buried at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery on Thursday, September 24, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. Visitations will take place on September 23rd at 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with at rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel on Austin Highway.
