
He was born on December 26, 1926, to Lee Roy and Minnie Lou Massengale.
He was a beloved brother, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who will be missed dearly by his family and friends.
Lewis was a proud veteran of World War II, a member of Davy Crockett Masonic Lodge #1225, and a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies and the Alzafar Shrine in San Antonio, TX.
Sheppard-Hammer, which he co-founded in 1958, became Massengale Armature Works in 1965, which he owned and operated with three of his sons. He took great pride in personally managing the family business until his recent illness and will be remembered by many for the first-class quality of work that the company has produced for 47 years.
In addition to his career and family, Lewis had a life-long interest in automobiles that ranged from stock-car racing in the 1950's to building, driving, and showing classic cars. He collected and restored a number of classic cars throughout his life, and he was a joint member of the San Antonio Gear Grinders and the San Antonio Rodders where he was a frequent participant in car shows and events.
He also loved fishing at the Texas coast and hunting as well.
Lewis was preceded in death by his parents, Lee Roy and Minnie Lou Massengale; his brother, Lee Roy Massengale, Jr.; his sister, Barbara Jerkins; and his grandsons, James and Aubrey Massengale.
He is survived by Jo Ann Massengale; his sons and their wives, Michael and Rosa Massengale, Terry and Joyce Massengale, Bert and Rene Massengale, and John Massengale and Robin Chapman; his grandchildren and spouses, Monica and Bryan Crowley, Denise Massengale, Kyle Massengale, Emily Massengale, Trenton Massengale, and Beverly Knorr; and his great-grandchildren, Morgan Crowley and Shelby Crowley. He is also survived by his brothers and their spouses, Wilburn Red Massengale, Wayne and Bobbye Massengale, James and Jean Ann Massengale; and his sister and spouse, Charles and Alice Shaw; in addition, Betty Klein, Ronnie Massengale, Larry Massengale, Harry Massengale, Norman Massengale, Carol Massengale, Doris Duran, and numerous nieces and nephews.
