

Lillie Ruth Franklin Wallace was born January 12, 1921, in South Bexar County to Orrn Ripley Franklin and Minnie Holcombe. She was a descendant of John Wesley DeVilbiss, a pioneer Methodist preacher. She died Sunday, June 13, 2010 at the age of 89.
She was married on July 23, 1948, to James Oldham Wallace. She was a graduate of Harlandale High School and attended Baylor University and Southwest Texas State University now Texas State University.
She had been a member of First Baptist Church since 1945, teaching preschool children, working with the Woman's Missionary Union and as a coordinator of volunteers at the church's Fourth Street Inn.
She was also a member of the San Antonio College Faculty Wives, served as President, and the San Antonio Historical Association. By nature she was a doer and full of curiosity, wondering who, what, and why. She was also a skilled seamstress, making clothes for herself and her daughters, tablecloths, and other items.
She is survived by her beloved husband, James Oldham Wallace; three daughters and sons-in-law: Carolyn and Douglas Denning of Katy; Frances and Walter Peterson of Bandera; Thelma and John Pittman of Trophy Club; five grandchildren: Reagan Peterson, Sarah Denning, Amy McGee, Travis Peterson and Holly Pittman; one great-grandson, Aidan McGee; and her sister, Martha Dudley of Nacogdoches. Her parents and one brother preceded her in death.
Visitation will be held Monday June 21, 2010 from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Porter Loring.
