Linda Austin, a woman of exceptional grace and generosity, born on April 22, 1944, in the spirited city of New Orleans, Louisiana, departed this life on March 25, 2025. Her journey, marked by an unwavering commitment to beauty, kindness, and community, leaves an indelible legacy for all who were privileged to know her. Linda, affectionately known as “Duza” to her family and “Mimi” to her grandchildren, was the daughter of the late Emmy Lou and William Austin.
She is survived by her devoted son, Lon, and his wife, Alicia; her cherished grandchildren, Lon and Jessicalynn, the latter with her husband, Ethan; and her beloved sisters, Susan and Nancy. She was preceded in death by her dear daughter, Kelly Lynn, who passed away four years ago, in 2021 and her beloved younger brother Billy. Her family was the cornerstone of her life, and she nurtured them with the same care she extended to the world around her. A lady of remarkable character, Linda was artistic, witty, humble, kind, generous, and beautiful in both spirit and presence. Her talents found expression in a life dedicated to uplifting others. She volunteered tirelessly with the Waring Volunteer Fire Department and Meals on Wheels, embodying her deep-seated love for helping those in need. An educator at heart, Linda taught art for many years at Lanier High School, inspiring countless students with her creativity and wisdom. Even after retirement, she continued to tutor, ever eager to share her knowledge. Linda’s passions painted her life in vivid hues. She delighted in gardening, cultivating immaculate yards that bloomed with splendor whether in Floresville, the King William Historic District, or Waring. Her love for puttering among the flowers reflected her appreciation for life’s simple joys. With a keen eye for beauty, she often captured the world’s charm in spontaneous photographs of brightly-colored objects and fleeting moments. Her achievements were as inspiring as they were varied.
Linda earned a Bachelor of Art from Trinity University and a Master of Education from the University of Texas in San Antonio, laying the foundation for a lifetime of learning and teaching. At the age of 60, she completed a triathlon, a testament to her strength and determination. Linda Austin will be remembered as she wished: a steadfast contributor to her community and a helper to all, no matter where she lived. Her love for flowers and vibrant beauty reflected the warmth she shared with others. She leaves behind a quiet grace that will endure in the lives she touched.
