

Lois was born on January 22, 1933 in San Antonio, Texas. She was the daughter of Elizabeth Pope and LeRoy Evans Bates, Sr. She graduated from Jefferson High School in San Antonio. She graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a BA in Business Administration. During her time at The University, she was a member of Tri Delta sorority.
While at the University of Texas, Lois met and then married the love of her life, Joe Warren Jones. They settled in San Antonio and had four children together. Joe established a successful law practice and they both established many long-time friendships that have lasted for decades. Lois remained in close contact with many of her high school and university friends.
Lois and Joe were fanatic University of Texas football fans. During their marriage and after her husband’s passing, she attended every home game. Her children and grandchildren enjoyed accompanying her to these events as well.
Throughout her life, Lois had a keen interest in travel abroad. During her lifetime she toured the continents of Europe, Asia, Africa and Central America numerous times. Many of these trips she took with her husband and later in life with her children and grandchildren.
Lois was also an avid bridge player. She belonged to several bridge groups and had close relationships with the bridge ladies. It was not uncommon for her to play several times a week.
Lois devoted hours of her time to numerous San Antonio charitable causes; including: The Southwest Foundation Forum of which she served in the role as President, The Battle of Flowers Association, The Military Civilian Club, The Junior League of San Antonio, The San Antonio Bar Auxiliary and the Methodist Hospital.
She was also a member of Alamo Heights United Methodist Church.
Lois loved her family and was adamant that each year all her children should travel home to San Antonio to spend Thanksgiving and Christmas together. She loved spending time with her granddaughters and was so excited about the arrival of two new great granddaughters.
Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Warren Jones. She is survived by her four children Janelle Jones MacDonald, Jo Lynn Jones Leonard (Kevin) Jackson Jones (Laila) and Jeffrey Jones. Grandchildren include Julia Baker (Mike), Holly MacDonald and Lindsay MacDonald. Great grandchildren: Finlay Baker and Sophie Baker.
As a result of the COVID 19 virus, a private memorial service for immediate family members is being planned.
