Lois was born in Ganado, TX on July 05, 1936 to Wiley J. Hubbard and Jewel Simmons Hubbard, the first of three girls. She was very popular in school, she attended Ganado High School and played Basketball, was in the FHA, was Treasurer and a member of the yearbook staff. She was also a member of the Band, a Majorette, Class Favorite and Homecoming Queen. She went to Victoria College and eventually received an associate degree in mathematics.
Lois married Bobby J. Walker in 1955. They had four children, Lisa Lynn (the only girl who, sadly, passed when only 3 days old), Dru A. Walker, Wiley “Brent” J. Walker and Todd A. Walker. She had four grandchildren, Whitney T. Walker, Ryan A. Walker, Andrew A. Walker and Ellery Everette Walker (the angel of Lois’ eye who sadly passed when 15 months old). They divorced in early 1971 after a long separation.
She married Bernard “Ben” R. Rieck on December 30, 1971. They were married over 32 years until Ben’s passing on January 23, 2004. Lois was stepmother to Ben’s four children., Donald, Nancy, Jack and Mary. Lois and Ben loved to go to Las Vegas, also country dancing, especially to Willie Nelson, at Flores Country Store.
Among other jobs Lois worked for the phone company in San Antonio, where she made many life-long friends. She taught elementary school in Ganado TX, cared after numerous children at the Devereaux School in Victoria TX and spent many, many happy years working as Administrative Assistant to the President and Vice Presidents of Trinity University in San Antonio.
Art was a passion for her. She painted in different media but found her calling in oil paints with the pallet knife. She painted many beautiful scenes and started selling them on the side of the road. She became a member of the Randolph Art League and River Art Group and sold over one hundred paintings personally and at Art League and Group Events, such as the Fiesta Art Show in Alamo Plaza. She had devoted fans of her art, and many would come each year to visit her at the Fiesta Art Show. One of her most loved paintings was a large rendition of Mission San Jose in San Antonio. Ben had prints made of the painting which were sold at the mission gift shop as their official print.
