Lore was born in 1935 in what was then Pomerania, Germany. Her world transformed in a time of conflict, and she and her parents arrived in Frankfurt as refugees after the war. She would find work in the offices of a manufacturing company, and took English classes at night.
A family friend introduced her to James E. Senseney, Jr., then stationed in Germany, thinking she could help him learn German, and he could help her learn English. They immediately hit it off and were married in 1957.
The Army would take them back to San Antonio, Texas, where they raised their three children, Charlotte, Hildegarde, and James III.
Lore threw herself into various passions, becoming a phenomenal cook, traveler, and needleworker. She volunteered for 25 years at the Witte Museum as one of their “Witte Wonders,” the group of talented ladies restoring fragile antique fabrics and clothing in the museum’s textile department. As part of her volunteer work, Lore’s talent at reading “Kurrent” and “Suetterlin,” forms of German script that are difficult to read for younger generations, enabled her to work with the Daughters of the Republic of Texas translating diaries and writings of some of San Antonio’s German ancestors.
Lore was predeceased by her father Willi in 1972, her mother Alice in 1993, and her husband James in 1998. She is survived by her and James’ three children, son-in-law Daniel, grandson Alexander, granddaughter-in-law Mae and great-granddaughter Cassandra.
Graveside service and burial at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery on Monday March 18th at 9:30 at Shelter #4.
