I first met Richard when he returned to active duty at Pat's request/orders/insistance during Desert Storm. I think the story goes that Richard came back and volunteered to be recalled if the army wanted him and of course they did. At that time Pat was Assistant Corp. Chief at Med Com and had the fun job of recalling doctors and PAs. Richard became an instant friend and so easy to talk to. After Desert Storm and he left for N.M. we all hated to see him go but the best part was that when he resurfaced again he had his wonderful companion, friend and wife Maria with him. Like Richard Maria is too too kind. She bcame and instant friend and just fun to be with. The memories of our trip to Mexico to visit them in their beautiful home that Richard built will always be with me. I often think of the great shopping trips, great food, interesting and unusal friends, long talks and getting lost in a city where I spoke no spanish. That was the real beginning of a long friendship. Everytime I see a long stem flower or a piece of junk I think of my wonderful friend Maria. To know her is to love her as it was with Richard.

We are humbled to have been in the presence of such a great man, if but for a short time. May you be blessed as you take up the Medal of Honor as the representative for Richard.

I met Richard and Maria Rocco up in Austin in his 1957 panel van we the VNV & LV M/C wear called to meet Richard. This is when Richard wanted to bye a Harley Davidson Motorcycle .And he was my first Medal of Honor Holder to meet in person boy I was struck by Richard with a soft spoke voice and humblness in his hart and man not above God but that walkes with God in his hart.Richard helped as when I got to San Antonio I was homeless Richard called the GI Form and got me help with food and outher things I needed, God Bless Richard . The Rocco family, we have all lost a great son,husband,father,grandfather and veteran. Rocco was always their for everybody regardless who you were. I remember when he did talk about joining the Viet Nam Vets Motorcycle Club, but he said he couldn't afford a Harley Davidson. Richard, you were my friend for over 30 years. You are my mentor for life.

I met Richard when I moved to San Antonio and was undergoing Counselling at the Vet Center on Cypress in 98. When our club, the VIET NAM VETS/LEGACY VETS M/C VNV/LV M/C escorted MSG Benivedez to Ft Sam, for the Rosary., Richard told me he wanted to put me in for a Retroactive award,for something that happened when I was in Vietnam in 1968, because all my records were lost. I eventually was awarded the Bronze Star for Valor. THAT was Richards whole focus, helping anyone he came across,he became good friends with all the members of the club, and was nice enough to speak at one of our events.On behalf of the VNV/LV M/C, we are honored to have know him and extremley PROUD that his wish was for us to lead him to FT.Sam, for the Rosary.He was a Great Warrior and a GIANT,SINCERE, DEDICATED and COMPASSIONATE MAN. The community has lost one of it's greatest leaders, CWO2 Richard Rocco. Our sincere condolences to the family. "BRASSO" VNV/LV M/C.

I am sorry for your loss.

My condolences to Ms.Lita Rocco, Femme, Theresa Dubois, Del, Cameron and the family of Richard Rocco. I was blessed to have known Richard for 6 years of my life. Unfortunately since I no longer kept in touch with Richard, I had no idea of the passing of his father and had to find out about Richard through the media. I also will be out of town on Thursday and cannot attend the memorial scheduled for him. I will never forget how good Richard was to me and how special he was. It was my loss when he decided to move on in another direction. However, I will always be grateful for the time I had with him and will never forget his endearing smile and compassion for others. He will always be in my heart and thoughts. He loved the Vets and his family with all his heart, this I know for sure. God Bless you all and may the Holy Spirit sustain and comfort you in this sad time, in the loving name of Jesus our Lord and Savior. Peace & Love,

I met CWO2 Rocco on a few occassions. The first was as a member of the Fort Sam Houston Sergeant Audie Murphy Club. He came in with CSM Visciano. He asked us to help with the VAVD program. I was impressed with his passion and conviction. My last memory of him is at the funeral for SMAret Van Autreve. He came in to the DODD chapel. While someone was signing him in, he looked at me and asked,"You're in Sergeant Audie Murphy Club, aren't you?" I told him I was. He reached into his pocket and pulled out his Medal of Honor. "Do you think you can help me with this then?" I just stood there. Most people never get to see a Medal of Honor in person, let alone hold one. He just looked at me, smiled and said,"It's ok." I placed the medal around his neck and he proceeded into the chapel. I also remember him walking up at the burial plot and seeing a two or three star general jump to his feet, call the VIPs to attention and salute. I will never forget my experieces with him. He was a very special man.

I am also an Albuquerque native. Mr. Rocco gave us our VA benefits outbriefing when I retired at Cannon AFB NM in 1993. He didn't hesitate to give us all the advice we needed to ensure we knew how to get ALL the benefits we were due! Thank you and God bless you and your family!
