

LTC Ralph E. Cofield, USAF (RET), of Fair Oaks Ranch, TX passed away on Monday, November 9, 2020. He was born on September 14, 1929 in Reynolds, Georgia to William and Agnes (Youngblood) Cofield. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps, soon to become the U.S. Air Force. He spent a year in Korea and, soon after his return, went through OCS and flight training. He was assigned to the 55th Wing of Strategic Air Command where he proudly served throughout his military career. During his time at SAC he was awarded multiple air medals, among them the Distinguished Flying Cross.
Ralph loved the Air Force life and the exciting challenges he encountered with SAC during the Cold War. He valued many of the friendships he made at SAC and remained in touch with several fellow “Crows” until his death. Col. Cofield was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Raymond Lamar Cofield; and his first wife of 62 years, Nora Joan Marie (McCarey)Cofield. He is survived by his wife, Linda (Martin) Cofield; one son, Ralph Edward Cofield of Denver; one daughter, Valorie Jeanne Cofield of Floresville; a step-son, Garrett Williams (Tricia) of New Braunfels, along with several nieces and nephews. Ralph was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Boerne and was a 3rd and 4th Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus.
