Lt. Col. Terry Scott Church, USAF (Ret.), a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, passed away on February 2, 2026, in San Antonio, Texas at the age of 72. He was born on December 5, 1953, in Baird, Texas to Helen Ruth and Richard Church. The Church family settled in Abilene, where Scott graduated from Cooper High School before enlisting in the United States Army, after which he began his civilian career as a Licensed Vocational Nurse.
A devoted servant to his country, Scott proudly served three years in the United States Army before continuing his military career in the United States Air Force, working in a variety of health profession roles and retiring with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. His 20+ years of service were marked by dedication, leadership, and a deep sense of duty.
After his military service, Scott returned to the nursing profession, caring for his community with compassion and humility. He was also a proud graduate of the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1980 and graduated from Oregon Health Sciences University with a Master of Science in Nursing in 1985.
Known for his love of family and fun, Scott enjoyed spending his time with his grandchildren at basketball games, making annual “Church Men” trips to the Las Vegas craps tables with his brothers, sons and nephews, and spending every day laughing through life with his beloved wife.
Scott was a man of faith since his youth, taught by his late parents to follow Jesus Christ. He shared this faith with his children and grandchildren. In his later years, Scott’s heart found a home in the Catholic Church, and he was a proud member of St. Matthew Catholic Church in San Antonio.
Scott will be remembered for his service, his selfless devotion to his family, and his humor. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His light and joy of life, however, will continue to radiate with his memory and his grandchildren will never watch a game show without smiling as they recall time with “Papa.”
He is preceded in death by his parents. Scott is survived by his wife of 49 years, Corazon; children, Jonathan (Crystal), Brian (Danielle), and Melissa; grandchildren, Brian, Brooklyn, Nicholas, Blaire, and Bradley; siblings, Gary (Paula) and Michael; nephews, Todd and Trey (Tatiana). Scott also adored his grand dogs, and in lieu of flowers, requested donations be made to the Austin Animal Services, from which Poe was adopted.
A Visitation will take place from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary to follow on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at Porter Loring Mortuary North, located at 2102 North Loop 1604 East, San Antonio, Texas 78232.
