Lucia Mendez Barrera

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jose Antonio Barrera, and her youngest child, Margaret Barrera Davila. She is survived by her son, David Barrera (spouse Corina, their two children David E., Jennifer M., and great-grandchildren, Alana E, Caleb A., Alessa V., and Caden E.), daughter, Maria Magdalena Rodgers (spouse Billy Henderson), daughter, Rita V. Holguin (spouse Kevin and their two daughters, Kristine and Erin), daughter, Lucia Katrina Gutierrez (spouse Abel, their two children Adam, Amanda Elizabeth Lugo (spouse Sean), and great-grandsons Adrian and Guisseppi), daughter, Celia I. Rodriguez (spouse Jorge and their two sons Daniel J. and David A.), son Jose Alejandro Barrera (his two children Miguel Alejandro and Maggie), and grandson Samuel J. Davila.

A kind and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, Lucia went from fondly being called "Mother" to lovingly called "Buela" due to the inability of her grandchildren to say "Abuela." She had a love for gardening; spending countless hours mastering her skills of planting seeds and cuttings. However, her greatest joy was the planting of her children, the grafting of her children's spouses into the family garden, and enjoying the fruits God granted her by way of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Lucia was the nucleus of her family and her love will be greatly missed.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 25, 2013 at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
