Lydia Isabel Garrido

Lydia was born in Panama City, Republic of Panama, on May 11, 1941, to Jose Wing and Maria Liao Wing. She graduated from the Instituto Panamericano in 1959.

Lydia met Donald in Panama through mutual friends and they got married in 1970. They raised their two children in the Canal Zone and enjoyed an active life of weekends at the beach, travel all over the world and extended family gatherings. Lydia realized several professional accomplishments during her career as an Executive Secretary for the Air Force.

After retirement, the family settled in San Antonio in 1994. Soon after, Lydia gathered her Panamanian friends nearby and formed a monthly lunch group that still meets and donates toys every Christmas to Toys for Tots. This group of ladies helped to fill the void of being far away from family. She also enjoyed card games with friends, crocheting, coffee dates with her granddaughter, cheering on her grandson during sporting events, playing with her grandchildren and spending time with her family.

Lydia was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 51 years, Donald Prieto Garrido. She is survived by her children, Lydia Garrido Robledo (Victor) and Ronald Garrido (Elizabeth); sister, Denise Wing Smith; and grandchildren that affectionately called her “Abue”, Lorena and Joaquin Robledo; Aaron, Celeste and Andrew Garrido.

The family will receive friends for visitation on Tuesday, April 30, 2024 at Porter Loring Mortuary North beginning at 5:00 PM.
