

Lyle Eldon Hawthorne, age 88, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on January 30, 2022. Lyle was born on November 5, 1933, to Charles and Doris Hawthorne in Genoa, Nebraska. He was the middle of five children and grew up in Fullerton, Nebraska. Upon graduating high school, Lyle joined the U.S. Army and subsequently attended the University of Nebraska, graduating with a degree in Civil Engineering. He worked for Diamond Shamrock (later Valero) for over 30 years before retiring as Vice President of Engineering.
Lyle is preceded in death by his first first wife, Barbara Holdridge Hawthorne; his parents, Charles and Doris Hawthorne; his sister, Vivian Kolm; his brother, Russell Hawthorne; and his grandson, Tate Landin.
Lyle is survived by his second wife Barbara Murphy; his sister, Bernadine Batenhorst; his brother, Larry Hawthorne; his children Mary Lee (Randy) Strickland, Sandra (Kyle) Borne, Susan (Victor) Landin, Scott (Lorei) Hawthorne, and Stephen (Brandy) Hawthorne; his grandchildren Michael Strickland, Matthew Strickland, Missy Mankin, Molly Strickland, Mason Strickland, Madelyn Strickland, Maci Strickland, Cale Curphey, Cameron Curphey, Tad Landin, Avery Nelson, Libby Landin, Luke Landin, Michael Hawthorne, Tyler Hawthorne, Eric Hawthorne, Evan Hawthorne, Bentley Hawthorne, Zachary Hawthorne, Presley Hawthorne, Charlie Hawthorne, and Lucy Hawthorne; and seven great-grandchildren.
