Ali H. Johnson, MAJ (R) was born on May 22, 1972, in Camden, New Jersey to Ms. Phyllis Johnson. He departed this life on Monday, October 25, 2021. Ali was educated in the Camden City Public Schools System where he made a host of lifelong friends. In 1990, he graduated from Camden High School where he ran track, cross country, and participated in various peer leadership groups.
Ali enlisted in the United States Army and served honorably and loyally retiring after 26 years. His military service included many assignments, and deployments to include Afghanistan and Iraq. Maj (R) Johnson was awarded the Legion of Merit Medal among several distinguished awards. He studied Business Administration at Methodist University in Fayetteville, NC and received a Bachelor of Science in 1999. He later received a Masters of Arts in Public Policy from the University of Missouri in St. Louis in 2005. Ali had affiliations with the Prince Hall Masonic order to include Royal Arch, Knights Templar, 32nd Consistory and Shriners.
Ali was a great father and enjoyed spending time with his children, including traveling to different places around the world with his family. It brought him such joy and fulfillment being able to watch his children grow up. In retirement, Ali was determined to live life to the fullest. Music & dance was a major contributor in Alis life. In his own words, "My music will tell you more about me than I ever will". Ali Johnson had a strong representation of diversity in his accomplishments in the U.S. Army, as well as his love for music and dance. He truly enjoyed a variety of music such as old school hip-hop, R&B, soul, bachata, kizomba, and especially salsa. His hobby for dance soon became his full-time passion after retiring from the Army. Music and dance were a great joy in his life where he was able to touch, move, and inspire people from all over the world. Everyone knew Alis presence at any social gathering with his infectious smile, charisma, and love to give people their best experience, as he would say, "Give them what they want". We knew it was time for our many priceless selfies when Ali called out, "Proof of Life". His surge of energy was unique, transparent, loyal, loving, guided, and contagious on any dance floor he was on. Ali was always the center of the party as he unconditionally engaged, elevated, and empowered the dance community. As Ali reminded us daily, DANCE NOW, LIVE NOW
Ali was a son, father, brother, friend, retired U.S. Army Major, and astute businessman and lover of salsa and bachata, and kizomba. Although he will be truly missed by many, his legacy will continue on with the survival of his mother, Phyllis Johnson, of Camden, NJ, children, DeAndre and Brianna (Sheryl) of San Antonio, TX, and Isabella (Angelica) of Joint Base Andrews, MD, many siblings, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
