

Manuel A. Matos-Diaz was born on June 1, 1928, in Carolina, Puerto Rico to Zenon Matos-Rodriguez & Josefa Diaz and passed from this life on Friday, September 30, 2011 in San Antonio, TX. He proudly served in the United States Army for 21 years, retiring as a SFC. He worked at Southwest Methodist Hospital for 18 years, working his way up to Chief of Microbiology. His passion in life, besides his family, was cooking traditional Puerto Rican dishes. He was preceded in death by his wife, Hilda Maria Matos; brothers, Luis, Harold, Jorge and Miguel Matos. Surviving are his wife, Elba Matos; daughters, Aileen Matos-Navarro (Jose), Janet Hilda Matos-Ford (Bruce), Michele Marie Matos-Jackson (Michael);grandchildren, Sean Bushell, Melissa Navarro, Amber Bushell, Krista Hoey-Paul, Korey Dunn, Nicholas Navarro, Kurt Dunn; and 4 loving great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Luz Matos and Gladys Matos. Visitation will be held on Monday, October 10, 2011 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel, with a rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be celebrated at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Red Cross or the American Cancer Society.
