I miss dad greatly, but I am so blessed to have had the best dad for 56 years.  He was always there for my brother and I, he was a faithful servant of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ, he lived out his faith in everything he did.  In the Bible, the Apostle Paul writes to the church of Galatia what are 9 visible attributes of a life shaped by the Holy Spirit.  The apostle Paul refers to these as fruit; the fruit of the Spirit.  These are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control.  If you spent any time at all with dad, you knew that dad had these attributes.  Dad was extremely loving and kind, very gentle and patient. And he was faithful, never forgetting to send a card which always included encouraging scripture, and he always had a gift for every special occasion.  Dad was generous. He lived a simple and content life, just so he could help someone in need or sponsor a mission trip.  He gladly sponsored my 3 daughter to go to bible school.  Dad didn’t just tell people about Jesus, Dad lived a life showing how Jesus changes a life.   This started at a tent revival meeting in highschool. God reached down an took ahold of dad's heart and hand and never let go.  Dad’s focus became how can I be a blessing to other’s and share Christ with them; always walking hand in hand connected to the living God.  This world can offer nothing in comparison to the love Christ has for us.  1 John 4:19 says "We love because He (Christ) first loved us."  Dad knew that the best thing anyone in this world could have is knowing that Jesus loves us, died for our sin and was raised again on the third day to save us.  If there is just one thing more dad could say to each one of us today, it would be that Christ loves you, he died for you, and he wants your heart and will never let you go.  That same hand that reached down in that tent revival meeting and has held fast to dad all his life is the same mighty hand that has lifted dad into glory.

Today, collectively, we created a New Core Memory with six of my 22 nieces and nephews.  Thank you Manuel for raising such wonderful men in David and Victor, and for Grandfathering the most precious children on this Earth.  It’s always a joy to spend quality time with my family.  Blessings of Peace and Love to your hearts.

One thing that always stood out to me with Manuel, is that he was always there for our big moments.  Even after our mother remarried three times, Manuel was so cool and peaceful, that he was just part of the extended family through all the years with Linda’s other children.  Manuel was present at every Thanksgiving and Christmas, and even some birthday celebrations of mine.  Even at my graduation from San Angelo Lake View High School at 18 years old in 1995, Manuel drove all the way up to celebrate me and this milestone.  

Manuel will always be Dad to me, because he showed me genuine Care and Love through all my years and stages in life.  That’s what a great father offers his children, and that’s the kind of Love and Care I want to offer my own son.  I’m truly grateful he was there for my brothers and the rest of us “step kids”.. because we really needed a man like Manuel in our lives.  

“May the LORD bless you and keep you. May the LORD show you his kindness and have mercy on you. May the LORD watch over you and give you peace.”

When I was six years old through the age of 14, I got to spend more time with my older brothers and their father Manuel.  Although he wasn’t my biological Dad, he was the Dad I needed.  Manuel took me and my other three siblings in as his own.. and helped raised us with good morals and values.  I believe I get much of my generosity and kind hearted qualities from Manuel.  He was always a shining example of Loving Kindness, and he embodied the True teachings of Christ Yeshua.  I remember every time we went to the BMX bike racing track with my older brothers Victor and David as a young boy.  I remember witnessing how a good father cared for and was present in his children’s lives.  I remember a man of integrity and genuine care for his boys.  I also remember feeling Manuel’s care for me, and taking me in through my teen years.  Manuel taught me how to drive a stick shift in his old 1970’s Ford truck.  I was so young and so full of adventure.. and I deeply wanted a father who showed me how to do the man stuff.  Manuel stepped in when I needed a Man to step in for me and show me the way, and I am deeply grateful for his instrumental role he had over my young life.   I will always remember you as the Dad who cared for me and wanted to see me shine.  Thank you Papa Manuel.

We at Hope For A New Life Church will greatly miss our Brother Manuel. He played a major role in our church and in our individual lives.

It was a blessing to have know Manual. He was an easy going,  happy man, always with a gentle smile. Will miss him at gatherings , but know I'll see him again at the ultimate Family gathering.

Manuel was such a loving, kind, and gentle man. He was there at times my own father wasn’t. It was such a blessing to have him in my life. He was truly a gift God gave to this world and I know God welcomed him home saying “well done my good and faithful servant.”

Memories of Grandpa Manuel: 
I’ll always treasure the moments we spent in the garden. He patiently showed me how trimming dead leaves helps plants thrive, and how to gently loosen roots before planting. One day, when I accidentally cut a worm in half, he smiled and reassured me that the worm could regenerate, and it would help the soil. He was always smiling, always laughing, bringing tamales to family gatherings, and making sure everyone felt happy. He gave me my first car, supported me in a gap year program that shaped my path, and showed unwavering love for his family, both related and chosen family. He treated everyone with kindness. He lived simply, but his faith and generosity were rich. He always helped those less fortunate, and his actions spoke louder than words. Grandpa Manuel taught me, through his life, what true love and kindness really mean.

I am so thankful for the life dad lived and the lives he touched. He was such a kind, gentle, and humble man who loved his Lord and everyone he met. My brother and I were so blessed to have him as a loving and supportive father and mentor. He showed us the value of faith in God and love of family and people. Those who had the privilege of knowing him loved our Dad. He was a faithful servant whom God shaped, refined, purified, and created in him a heart of gold. Dad was blessed with seven grandchildren whom he adored and loved spending time with and nurturing their souls with his affection and care. 

Dad loved to garden and work on his rental properties where he helped lots of people and made many friends. He was one of the most frugal yet generous men I knew who showed us the value of giving, saving, and investing. He was known as "Tio Juni" to his family and "Manny" to many of his friends who we know will miss him greatly. Dad was always available to talk and encourage us and I wish we could talk just once more. I love you Dad and I am assured we will meet again in glory.

My parents Russell and Wanda Wilkison met Brother Mendez at Berean and had the privilege of working alongside him and his family in Coatepec, Veracruz.  I celebrated my first birthday alongside Victor when he turned 3. My sister, Cristina, and I loved stopping by to visit Brother Mendez in San Antonio on our road trips back and forth from Florida to Coatepec over the years and considered Victor and David among our favorite friends.  While we are sad that brother Mendez has said a temporary goodbye, we are so glad to know that we will share eternity together.  We love you all and pray for the comfort of the Holy Spirit. It seems he put others needs above his own,  time he could have used for himself he gave to those less fortunate so they might thrive much as our savior would do for us. 
St. Peter may one day ask you the question: what did you do to help my children? What will you say?  Rest in piece sir, fly with angels and walk the streets paved of gold.
