Marcella Mae Kush

Marcella Blancher Kush passed away on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at the age of 88. She was the daughter of John Alfred Blancher and Willie Mae Blancher. Marcella was born on May 10, 1926 in San Antonio, Texas, and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School and San Antonio College. She married George Maier Kush on February 14, 1947, and they were blessed with 53 wonderful years of marriage.

Marcella was preceded in death by her husband George and her sister Peggy Hackney of Jackson, MS. Marcella is survived by her daughters: Carolyn Dunn (Steve) of Houston, Texas. Deanna Seeton (Mack), and Laurie Barberio (Ernest John). Son: George John Kush II (Debi). Eight Grandchildren: Lani Ramsey (Bill) of Houston, TX., Greg Dunn (Melissa) of Houston, TX., Marci Seeton, Lauren Magness (Tyler) of Denver, Co., Jordan Barberio, Kirby Kush, Kendall Kush, and Miranda Maher. Five Great Grandchildren: Marissa Ramsey, Kyle Ramsey, Luke Dunn, Wesley Dunn and Nico Dunn.

Marcella was the President of Prickley Pear Garden Club, Advanced Floral Design Guild and the San Antonio Flower Show Judges Council. She was a master and International Flower Show Judge and presented Table Programs all over Texas and Mexico. She held life memberships in Texas State Garden Club, National Council of Flower Show Judges and San Antonio Garden Center where she was a member for over 60 years. Marcella was particularly proud of winning the Gorham Sterling “Ten Best Dressed Tables in the U.S.” It was a contest and creating the design for the cover of Emma Cypher’s book, “Holiday Tables.” Special thanks to Dr. Neal Meritz for his many years of care. The family would like to especially thank the entire staff at Homewood of Shavano Park for their excellent and loving care for the past nine years.

Memorials may be sent to San Antonio Garden Center.

Visitation will be held at 2:00pm with the Funeral Services to follow at 3pm on Sunday, September 7, 2014 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. A Private burial will take place at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery on Monday, September 8, 2014.
