

Margaret Rabon Childress, 75, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 26, 2024, at herhome in San Antonio, Texas. Born on October 21, 1948, in Kingsville, Texas, Margaret was thebeloved daughter of Dr. Sam Houston Rabon and Edna Belle Rabon.
Margaret spent her early years in Kingsville. She attended Saint Mary’s Hall in San Antonio priorto graduating from Henrietta King High School in Kingsville. She married Lee Prowse, and thecouple moved to College Station, Texas, while Lee completed Veterinary School at Texas A&MUniversity. During their time in College Station, they welcomed their first son, Leland A. ProwseIV.
In 1972, Margaret and Lee were blessed with the birth of their daughter, Grey Lyn Fowler. Justtwo weeks later they relocated to Beeville, Texas, where Lee established his veterinary practice.Margaret was a devoted wife and mother, playing a pivotal role in supporting her husband'sbusiness and raising their two children. She spent countless hours accompanying her childrento horse shows across Texas, taking great pride in their achievements.
Margaret was deeply involved in the Beeville community, where she actively participated innumerous activities, including serving as a 4H Leader, contributing to Western Week, andfaithfully serving in various roles at St. Philip's Episcopal Church. Her life was grounded in herdeep faith and strong relationship with the Lord. Margaret had a love for hunting, fishing, andentertaining, and she was known for her warm hospitality, particularly during the annual Beevilledove hunts, where she graciously welcomed many guests. After many years of dedication to herfamily, Margaret proudly returned to her education, earning her degree from Texas A&IUniversity in 1992.
In 1998, Margaret married Allen Childress, with whom she shared a deep love for the outdoors.Together, they spent cherished moments watching wildlife and fishing along the Texas coast.After Allen's passing in 2000, Margaret moved to San Antonio, where she lived the remainder ofher life.
Margaret is preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Sam Houston Rabon and Edna Belle Newton;her stepfather, Harris Newton; stepmother Betty Rabon and her brother, Hayden Rabon. She issurvived by her son, Leland A. Prowse IV, and his wife Jackie; her daughter, Grey Lyn Fowler;her grandchildren, Clayton Hatfield, Taylor Hatfield, Margaret Ann Prowse, and Leland A.Prowse V; great grandson Hudson Hatfield; her sister, Mary Perry Miller; her brother, Jay T.Rabon; her stepbrother Johnny Calkins; stepsister, Janine Calkins; numerous nieces andnephews; and Lil Bit, her poodle companion of 10 years.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 5th, 2024, at Porter LoringMortuary at 1101 McCullough, San Antonio, Texas 78212. In lieu of flowers memorials may bemade to Coastal Conservation Association Texas at www.ccatexas.org
