Our beloved mother, loving wife, grandmother and friend, Maria C. Guzman, age 71, passed away on Monday, Nov 14, 2016 with her family at her side. At an early age, she became a widow with the loss of her husband, Jesse Guzman Sr. Above all things in life, Maria placed her faith in Jesus and family first. Through strict discipline and grounded values, our Mother instilled respect for others and for one's self. The gatherings at home will be remembered and cherished as the greatest of happy memories. Mom passed down her delicious cooking skills, but none of us will ever surpass her distinct ability to prepare the best turkey stuffing at Thanksgiving. Maria lead a happy and fulfilling life, she had an amazing sense of humor. Being around her always made you smile and laugh. In her younger years, she enjoying social outings and dancing. Later in life she enjoyed attending church to hear the word of God and listening to Christian music. Our Mother was a woman of inner strength and endurance, her undying love for us all will be held in our hearts forever.
Maria is preceded in death by her late husband, Jesse Guzman Sr, parents Quirino and Clara Cardenas and sister, Sulema Gonzales, brothers, Jimmy Cardenas and Luis Cardenas. She is survived by her husband, Ruben Pecina, daughter, Belinda Garcia (Daniel Garcia); sons: Jesse Guzman Jr. and Rene Guzman (Christine Guzman); siblings: Yolanda Trinidad and Richard Cardenas (Janie); grandchildren: Corey Garcia, Jesse Guzman III (Melanie), Dominic Guzman, Marissa Guzman, Megan Munoz, Brandon Hernandez, Aleah Guzman and Toni Guzman; one great grandson, Jesse Alexander Guzman IV along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and numerous friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, Nov 18, 2016 at 4:00 pm at Porter Loring on McCullough with recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 pm in the Chapel.
Funeral procession will be on Saturday, Nov 19, 2016 at 9:30 am from Porter Loring with a Mass of the Resurrection at 10:00 am at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, 16505 Kilowatt Rd., Elmendorf 78112.
Interment will follow in St. Anthony's Cemetery in Elmendorf.
