Maria Nieves Larrea Nadeau passed peacefully on February 28, 2025, entering the heavenly gates of eternity with our Lord and Savior. Maria was born on August 9, 1945, in the beautiful Basque region of Paresi, Busturia, Vizcaya, Spain. She is preceded in death by her parents, Esteban Larrea and Petra Zubiaga Larrea; siblings, Jose Esteban Larrea, Jose Luis Larrea, Jose Ramon Larrea, Maria Begonia Asla, Maria Isabel Muruaga, and Maria Soledad Morales. Maria also has been reunited with her son, Steven Nadeau and husband of many years, Gregory Nadeau. She is survived by her daughter, Jessica Nadeau Flores; her son-in-law, Adrian Flores; and her grandchildren, Mason and Everly Flores; nephew, Rey Morales (Connie) and family; as well as her brother, Jose Ignacio Larrea (Jan); along with numerous family members.
Maria Nieves Larrea Nadeau spent the first two decades living in her beloved Basque community in Spain before traveling to the United States. Maria resided in Boise, Idaho, before coming to San Antonio, Texas where she fell in love and started a family. Her American dream came true, and she was forever grateful.
With a heart of gold and a hard-working spirit, Maria loved caring for others. Whether it was raising her children, babysitting other children, or caring for the elderly for over 20 years. She was blessed with a servant’s heart. Her welcoming spirit was always paired with a vibrant smile and her love for others will never be forgotten.
Maria Nieves was also known for her “Larrea” strength. A hardworking strength that is admirable. She worked until she was 74, before retiring. However, she kept going and working hard in her beloved home. She loved working in her yard and enjoying the beautiful Texas sun. Her home was her joy. Her place of peace.
“Maria, our Mother, our Lita, you have given us an amazing year living with us in our home in Boerne, Texas. Each day you filled our hearts with laughter, you sang your Spanish songs to us, you danced with your grandchildren and never missed a game of peekaboo with them. Our dinners always ended with a sweet treat you enjoyed, and the nights were special because you were here, a gift that we will forever remember in our hearts. We thank God every day for these special memories, and the legacy that you have given to us. We will continue to love, to smile, to care, to work hard, to lead our life with a servant’s heart. You’re our everything. We love you forever, until we meet again.”
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 10, 2025, at Holy Cross Mausoleum Chapel, 17501 Nacogdoches, San Antonio, Texas. Committal Services to follow for Larrea family.
