Maria Tamez Miranda

Maria Tamez Miranda, age 88, passed away on Tuesday, December 26, 2023. Mom was known by many names to many people. The first one given to her by her parents was Maria Del Refugio Tamez Sosa. She was the first of 7 children. And from there she became Maria Tamez Miranda "Cuqui" (a.k.a. Cookie), Hermana, Cuñada, Prima, Tía, Madrina. But to us she was Mom, Ma, and Nana. She started her journey on December 26,1935 and quite a journey it was.

She was independent, adventurous, brave, and caring. Before marriage, she became a successful elementary school teacher in Mexico. After her marriage in 1974 and in the early 1980’s, she decided to pursue an education in nursing. Earning an Associates of Applied Science degree in Nursing at San Antonio College and graduated with her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing at the University of the Incarnate Word in 1985. Her career as a caring and dedicated registered nurse extended over a combined twenty years serving the state of Texas.

Her life with her four children in San Antonio was lived with life’s challenges and adventures. We could sit here and go on for hours telling you stories, sharing memories with plenty of laughter and tears while reminiscing about our beloved mother.

Mom the time has come for us to say goodbye here on Earth and for you to begin your new journey with all the others that have preceded you. Say hello to them from all of us and know that we will meet again. We will continue to have our moments, but will now have a guide to help us through because you taught us to look ahead and live our lives. Again, it is not a final Goodbye but a 'so long' for now. We love you Mom, God bless you and thank you for the memories. Love your tribe because we are a tribe. As you can see, we are quite a few. Everyone reading this life story, thank you for taking the time to accompany us to celebrate her life.

Mom is preceded by her parents Isauro and Maria de los Angeles Tamez; sister Yolanda Tamez Sosa; beloved daughter Sylvia Z. Martinez. She is survived by her siblings Delia Cepeda, Leticia (Reynaldo) Gaona, Jorge (Nelly) Tamez, Alma Laura (Daniel) Corona, Chata (Heribeto) Lopez. She is survived by her children: daughter Diana (Jesse) Reyna, Abel (Rachel) Miranda, and Xavier (Sarah) Miranda; 13 grandchildren: Angelina and Fernando Reyna; Richard (Rosa) Martinez, John Anthony Martinez, Monica and her partner Dawid; Abel II, Alyssa and Erik Miranda; Julia (Lucas) Gottschalk, Angelita, Vicente, Esteban and Mauricio Miranda; great grandchildren: Chloe Marie, Donny Dean, Ivan Antoni, Arillana Ivy, Nadia, Nikolai, Jayaden, Maverick, Caroline, Alena, Theodore and Nicholas.

A visitation for Maria will be held Wednesday, January 3, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Funeraria Del Angel Trevino Funeral Home, 226 Cupples Road, San Antonio, TX 78237. A rosary will occur Wednesday, January 3, 2024 from 7:00 PM to 7:30 PM, 226 Cupples Road, San Antonio, TX 78237. A funeral mass will occur Thursday, January 4, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Senyor Santo Niño de Cebu Catholic Church , 5655 Rigsby Ave, San Antonio, TX 78263. An interment will occur Thursday, January 4, 2024 from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM at Mission Burial Park South, 1700 SE Military Dr, San Antonio, TX 78214.
